I don't know if this is already a thread, but post your favorite hunting grounds below!

It's a deep-water port, easy to access, and the last time I was there, I sank three freighters and a tanker who were sitting at anchor for a total of 28,000 tons. That's not bad for ten minutes work.

For me it's always been the Makassar Strait between Borneo and Celebes. Especially the northern section near the Celebes Sea, where it's narrow. Nice maritime choke point.

I tried this port just last night and while the port was deep water, the berthing was not. I just couldn't get the suckers to sink. I'm guessing that most just settled to the bottom of their berths but still counted as afloat. Not sure why.

I did raid the small port just outside Saigon and had better luck there. (December 1941) More of the ships were moored with a broadside to the open water. I got three kills there (2 torps apiece). I put a half dozen into other ships in the harbor but they had the "settled but not sunk" problem. I'd have used more but forgot how low I was on torps when I went in. The only harbor boats protecting the harbor seemed to be a Sampan at the entrance and a few gun boats that never left the dock. Nailed the Sampan on the way out with my deck gun (3 shots of HE). Short of the AA gun that's the only firepower I had left.

I just follow orders of whatever the mission is.

Yeah, the berths themselves are shallow. When I was there, three ships were anchored outside the berths, and one next to the southern seawall. All of them sank no problems. I guess it depends where the ships spawn in the harbor.

Let's see, there's Makassar Straight like Torplexed mentioned, Mindoro Straight is good area, the Straight of Taiwan like Crannogman said, also the entrance to Manila Bay is a great spot, and if you're daring enough there's the Bungo Suido at the mouth to the Inland Sea. Just watch out for Bungo Pete!:arrgh!:

Makassar Strait is definitely good. I sank a large tanker there for 10,000 tons. I just walked right up to him with the deck gun!

I do tend to stay away from shallow waters, so I never really try to hunt the Taiwan Strait, and my one attempt to enter a hostile Manilla bay got me a large passenger liner, and two whole days of hounding by destroyers.

The Japs really do seem to go ballistic when you sink a troop transport.

I've never tried to enter Manila Bay, I tend to lurk outside of it just a bit to the north of Simo Banks where there's deep water. There's all sorts of enemy shipping that come into and out of Manila so waiting outside of it can be worth the wait. In one case I sank a IJN carrier that was leaving to go who knows where. Another good place would also be Truk Lagoon it's a high risk, high reward place to go get some big Japanese warships.

I had to give this one some thought. There really isn't one area that I like. Depending on where original assigned patrol zone is, I go to a nearby choke point after the star grays out.

I have always favored a few hundred miles off of Peleliu. Lots of shipping going in and out of there before the assault in '44. I favor waiting until nightfall and letting rip with both guns on my Narwhal on lone merchants. :arrgh!:

I have hit to many sub nets to play in bays any more. Well with one exception ... Truk.

I normally just go where they tell me too go.
