So here it is, RIAT in all its glory. Weatherwise the day started reaaly bad, high winds, low cloud, but then............ Blazing sun, little to no cloud cover, a totally amazing day on all fronts. I will post a few of the 400+ pictures I took here, and will give the link to the full album later. Most I consider good pics but there are a couple *cough* of slight OOF's in there so please forgive. For your information, this display season is the last chance you will get to see the Vulcan in all her glory! Don't miss it! I have to add RAF Fairford also put on the most heart rending and nostalic tribute to 'THE FEW'. My and many enthusiasts and veterans thanks go out to those that contributed, not least 'THE FEW' themselves !!.... The Red Arrows' ........ What can you say that has never been said..... You guys :rock::rock::rock::rock:

Fantastic pictures!
Although it does seem somewhat poetic that all the other warbirds are aloft, but the F-35 is on the ground. :O:
Is that a real F-35 or a mock-up? I don't think we actually have any in the UK yet, do we?

As far as I'm aware she is the same or similar to the one at Hendon.

Is that a real F-35 or a mock-up? I don't think we actually have any in the UK yet, do we? The pilot who flew the mission reported inferior energy maneuverability (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy%E2%80%93maneuverability_theory), a limited pitch rate and flying qualities that were "not intuitive or favorable" in a major part of the air-combat regime gave the F-16 the tactical advantage. In general the high AoA capabilities of the jet could not be used in an effective way without significantly reducing follow-on maneuvering potential. In an interview with CBC Radio (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/As_It_Happens) broadcast 2 July 2015, military journalist David Axe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Axe) claimed to have read the leaked report and stated: "Against a determined foe, the F-35 is in very big trouble." Nice one Jamie....beat me to it ya bugga :stare:
Speaking of XH558, apparently her Saturday pilot (Kev Rumens, I believe) got a slap across the knuckles for his enthusiastic take-off, a different pilot did the Sunday display and took it a little more sedately. But that was a good send-off for the old girl at her last RIAT, fighter take-off and then a sharp wing-over. The only thing that could have beaten that would have been a vertical into a roll like they used to do in the 1950s but I think that might have been a little too risky, although I think the airframe could have taken it, Avro built them well.
Anyway, here's Saturdays take-off, enjoy:

There are rumours of a roll being planned before she finally goes static but details are not available (should the rumours be true in the first place).

I think the biggest obstacle will be insurance restrictions but a roll could be performed off the coast with another aircraft in attendance to film the event

Sorry Jim, not getting forum email updates :(
Nikon D90, lens is Nikor 55-300 at times could have done with a larger lens, but then again at times could have done with something more around 35mm. Always the way ;)
Thanks for the compliments mate.

Just thought, as an addage, on the day. French display Lafeyette, number 2 a/c Mirage suffered bird strike and had to land. Magnificent display by the lone pilot.
The enginners and all involved with the BF109G pulled out all the plugs to get her in the air. We had been earlier warned a strong crosswind and then tech difficulties had her grounded. Hats off to all at RIAT :salute:
Not sure how many of you guys have just looked at the pics I posted, but I urge you to view the slide show.

I know what you mean....I've an 18-55mm and a 55-250mm, I borrow a 400mm off a mate on occasion but now I've decided to make a definitive decision on what I actully need and will soon be purchasing a 16-300mm which should cover more than 90% of my photography needs and all in the single lens.

I use an ancient Kiron 35-135 with 1-4 macro on my old Canon AE-1's: one loaded in color and one in B/W. I've kept these bby's professionally overhauled:up: and travel'd from Scotland to Tahiti with 'em! I still shoot film since my RE appraisal photo days. But I have a new Verizon tablet with a digital that I'm getting the hang of...just 'cause it's the 21st century!:nope:

TBH I've never had top of the range equipment because I readily accept I'm never going to be a professional photographer. I tend to rely on various image software packages to improve anything I decide needs said improvement.
I've still got my fully working Olympus OM-10 with manual adaptor attached as well as the usual bundle of wide angle and zoom lenses from the days of film.
My current camera is the lower end of the price scale Canon EOS 1100D which suites my needs. Current lenses being the 18-55mm and 55-250mm.
The lens I am now considering purchasing is the Tamron 16-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Lens (Canon Mount) and at a price of 300-350 pounds isn't overly expensive IMHO considering what some equipment can cost these days.

Old appraisal trick: buy up any stores' just expired date film at reduced price and keep it in the fridge. They're happy to get rid of it at a considerably reduced price. :salute:

Good tip mate, however I prolly mislead you a bit. The priciest part was the dev and print. I did take to shooting transparencies, because it was so easy to dev at home. Again it comes at a price, not so much the screen and projector, more the bother setting up the whole kit.
It kind of takes me back to my early youth, each time we went to one particular uncles, ( heavy into photography ), he would drgar out the screen etc. The room would go dark, and both myself and my brother, 'Oh no here we go again' :haha:
Good times tho and still got a stack of trannies, (not in a wierd way !).

AHH! ask for a 'commercial account' at the developer-generally gets you a break per print; and this just in: Start checking those 'estate sales' I do old watches and rare Scotch bottles but hey...there gold in old car tunks too! : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2631807/Rare-photographs-WWI-German-fighter-pilot-Red-Baron-action-shoebox-British-car-boot-sale.html (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2631807/Rare-photographs-WWI-German-fighter-pilot-Red-Baron-action-shoebox-British-car-boot-sale.html)
