I'm in my very first war career (just ended a successful 4th patrol). I visited the crew management screen and discovered three Senior Chiefs became experts (Engines Expert, Master Engineer and a Master Torpedoman). Do those of you who've been playing for years keep these experts for an entire career or remove them from the ship after some number of patrols? These experts are worth 9000 renown. I expect I'll get nothing in return if I rotate them off the boat.

I guess it is really up to you.

I'm wondering if you lose renown if these high-cost crewmen get killed. That is the only drawback I can see to keeping them.

I tried to rotate numbers of crew for one career, just to make things more realistic. I decided it wasn't a practical proposition in SH4; the replacement pool is much too small and I ended up with more than one crewman with the same name.

The only thing I would consider an unrealistic taboo is having multiple special abilities of the same type, where that was never intended. For example, having two Master Torpedomen, a therefore getting a double bonus.

Unless a Special Ability crew-member is needed for a mod, I rotate them out when I get them.

Losing a valuable member of a crew would be a tough blow in real life, so I view it as one of those 'unplanned things' that just happens in life when I 'lose' them.

I haven't noticed any penalties for moving them off of the boat and into the port 'pool'.

Happy Hunting!

When one of my crew is promoted to game breaking expert I stuff 'em in a torpedo tube and launch 'em to Davey Jones' Locker. I try to play a simulation, not an arcade game.:D:D
