Recently, one of my family's Dogs, named Jess, had to be put down. Her cancer was still there after an operation, and was starting to spread.
I'm still having a hard time believing that she's gone, but I still have fond memories of all the good times I had with her.
I think anyone who's had a Dog can understand this. I'd love to hear other people's stories about their Dogs :)

Sorry for your loss, Cybermat.
A house is not a home without a pet.

We lost our first family pet of fifteen and a half years a couple of years back but got another identical breed a year later to keep the memories alive.
The little bugga is lying asleep on the landing outside the mancave on his back with all four legs up in the air as I type this.
I've seen two many good friends, of four legs and less, pass on to wherever their spirit may roam. So long as you keep them in your heart, they never truly leave us. :yep:
It's been three years since Suzi, our little Lassa-Apso cross Tibetan Terrier passed away. We were a few months without a dog, which was very strange, just having two cats, but then we got our current little friend called Milly who is a Chihuahua cross Yorkshire Terrier. She's a tiny little thing, smallest dog we've ever had, but full of personality.

You have my condolences Cybermat, and I hope that her passing was peaceful. She'll always be with you. :yep:

Deepest sympathies Cybermat.
It's never easy when your cat, dog, horse or whatever is more of a family member than a pet and you lose them.
I have friends who are involved in the rescue and foster of animals that have been displaced because of natural disasters and end up keeping the lot of them or at least a number of them.
In the end you can feel good they had a great life with you better than some and gave you their best too.
Best regards

I think anyone who's had a Dog can understand this.
Absolutely.
Had to let my Siberian Husky go in 2007, after he was with me for almost 13 years. In the end he had troubles with his joints, was almost blind (which happened very fast and sudden) and just couldn't enjoy life that much anymore.
When it happened, it was terrible. I cried like an infant and needed weeks to accept that my best friend is just not there anymore to take up the most space in my bed, stealing the blanket (I kid you not) or just giving one of his concerts in the evenings (Huskies sing a lot...) and being totally bonkers in general (Huskies are... well... Huskies).
After one year, hard to say afterwards, the pain went away and changed into happiness and gratefulness for the time I had with him. It sure makes me sad sometimes when I think of him, but I know we had a good time and he had a good life with us - and that's what counts.
For now, just try to accept the sadness, don't push it away nor bath in it, just accept it being your companion for quite a while. It goes away on its own and leaves you stronger than ever.

My condolences..
Everytime you get a 'pet' or animal friend, you will mostly see its death at some time (until your own, of course). But you have to think how good it has been for this living friend to spend its time with you, rather than vegetating in an animal 'shelter'.

I saw that and ... this is our tomcat, 'Igor'
(we got him out of a shelter, he already had this name)

I had a female grey tabby Bella she would sit up on top of my chair when I was at the PC. Sometimes shed sit with her paws on my head and her chin on top of her paws all on top of my head guess it was cozy to her.:haha: Of course I'd make her move as cat paws on top of your head cat stomach on your neck is not so cozy unless it is freezing cold. But she always tried that funny pose first.
That cat was sharp she could tell if I was in a slump and then she would near constantly be right beside me. Some say that animals do not have personality or empathy I strongly disagree. This cat was a stray I found.
