I know it rarely happens but every incident is too much. How long will it take before all aircrafts are equipped with TCAS or a similar system ?

A link to Twitter? Why not a link to an actual news article?

I'm actually surprised the powers that be didn't put an end to civil aviation over a decade ago. I can only imagine it has something to do with Microsoft Flight Sim sales. :D

Sorry for those in the Cessna.

Is your car equipped with an automatic braking system? One of those that brake for you if you approach an obstacle and don't react. If not then why not?
Why isn't every car equipped with one of those as hundreds or maybe thousands of people die every day in ground traffic? The answer is money. Such systems are expensive and not everyone can afford them.

Alien Technology gets released slowly to the main stream.
As for Cars with automatic brakes?
The release of Cell Phone Technology before the auto-braking system was a FUBAR.

There's a difference. What happens if next time a B-52 collides with a commercial jet over a town, maybe even with some weapons on board ?

Trains, at least in Germany, have all automatic brake systems - and in addition the 'driver' has to acknowledge that he's alive every couple of minutes.

In aviation TCAS is mandatory for commercial aviation in EU/USA, dependent how many passengers are on board(~30+). TCAS even overrules the orders of controllers in emergency situations since it is so reliable.

And those systems in air planes are not that expensive any more...even gliders are more and more adapting a cheaper version of TCAS on a voluntary basis.

And what does a F-16 or any other state of the art jet does cost ? A TCAS-like system would not affect the overall price in a noticeable way, I guess.

To prevent the accident, it would have be probably sufficient if the F-16 would have a TCAS-like system (at least the pilot would have 'seen' the Cessna) as long as the Cessna had a working transponder

Actually any USAF operated F-16 isn't state if the art at all having been manufactured in the late 80's or early 90's not a bad airframe just not state of the art. They do have some collision avoidance systems though. I bet that the Cessna must have been missed by air traffic control and the F-16 pilot was expecting clear skies where he was.

Even with all the systems fighters have collided during training missions before. The F-16 probably got a sudden collision warning and the pilot didn't have time to react.

There are a whole lot of reasons this could have happened.

I'm not comfortable calling for any measures until we know.

I'd like to know the class of airspace this happened in, whether in or out of an active MOA.

So many factors.

If the USAF are as cooperative as I've experienced them to be - don't expect much.
