Very enlightening post, Harvs. I think we ordered some of these in the UK too, though why I don't know, since we already have the Typhoon. I just read something elsewhere saying that export of this aircraft is banned under Federal Law, so I now I'm confused...

No one seems to be happy with the F-35

We have great F18s, i dont know why they just dont upgrade those, at least they would have a good chance of surviving in combat, i have seen a news item that said some countries have already cancelled their orders for the F35.

JSF is an adequate multirole with strike focus. The only problem is the cost, that precludes anyone other than the US from having enough of those.

It's all starting to remind me of a US Army lemon that couldn't shoot anything down, even if it was flying in a straight line. The F-35, the M247 Sergeant York with wings.

Reminded me of this site and some of the comments include adult language...

What is that long gun in the background? I would like to look up the range ...

If that is what I think it is, then the range is anything from 16800m to 30000m

I'm surprised we havent bought it yet.
It's tough for a country smaller than 200km to protect it's airspace without a fleet of million euros worth of airplanes.

Actually I think that is an M107 175mm Self-Propelled Gun rather than the M110 I believe you're thinking of. That would give it a max range of 40km.
The M107 175 mm self-propelled gun was used by the U.S. Army from the early 1960s through to the late 1970s. It was part of a family of self-propelled artillery that also included the M110. It was intended to provide long-range fire support in an air-transportable system. It was exported to several other countries including Germany, South Korea, Spain, Greece, Iran, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Turkey. The M107's combat history in U.S. service was limited to the Vietnam War; it also saw extensive combat use in Israeli service. The M107 was the last self-propelled gun (high velocity, low trajectory, long range) in the U.S. Army inventory. It shared many components with, and in many cases was replaced by, later versions of the M110. Although withdrawn from U.S. service in the late 1970s, it continues in service with some armies as of 2010.
Key recognition features
Long thin barrel without a fume extractor or muzzle brake.
Gun is in an unprotected mount towards the rear of the hull with a large spade at the rear that is raised for traveling.
Chassis is same as M110 203 mm self-propelled howitzer with five large road wheels on each side, a drive sprocket front wheel and has no track-return rollers.

Maybe the US should just go with the upgraded F-16 and F-18 designs. The two of them are exceptional multi-role designs, and they are way cheaper than the F-35.
A number of people have been saying for a very long time that the F-35 was a dumb idea from the start.
I think the project has taken up some much money at this point that no one is eager to pull the plug.
