View Full Version : Do you still get credit if you don't see it sink?

After a long time away I decided to reinstall SH3 (and added NYGM....nice mod guys, thanks). So anyway, I spot what looks like a small tanker (funnel near the stern) making about 6 knots in heavy seas. My first shot hits amidships (starboard side), starts a small fire, and knocks her speed down below 1 knot. 1 hour later, she's got a heavy list to starboard but is still crawling along so I fire again and hit her just under the funnel (starboard side again). It starts a big fire, but she still keeps crawling along. I remember reading that with NYGM it may take a while for a ship to sink so I waited.......and waited.....and waited (good thing for time compression). 4 hours later, she finally goes down (kudos to the damage control guys on that ship.....they fought the good fight). So, I'm just wondering, if I had left the area after the second hit, would I still have gotten credit for the sinking that finally happened 4 hours later? :hmm2:

Madman!:Kaleun_Salute: After almost eight years! NYGM!!! yer a braver kaleun than I! I usually save the 'eel' and surface to finish with the deck gun; From directly astern at 1000 meters if the seas are too heavy...as you indicated.

If you leave the rendering range of the SH3 world before the vessel sinks, then no.

It can take a few hours til the ship finally sinks. Lately I have been a bit more patient (or hunted by escorts long enough) to have to wait for a ship to sink up to 4 hours. Sometimes they don't sink even after that time. Sometimes they even seem to repair their engines and resume their voyage. But you have to stay close, as ships don't retain their damage, either after leaving the render range or the 50 km range (not actually sure).

Also, sometimes the game credits the sinking to storm damage instead of flooding damage done by you.

OK, thanks for the replies. Good thing I decided to hang around.

I ordered the crew to man the deck gun but they seemed rather reluctant. I suspect that the waves breaking over the top of the conning tower may have had something to do with it. :haha:
