How is weather coded?

Hi I have always wondered how weather was implemented in sh3. Is it coded by region ex. is the north sea choppier and violent then some where in the med? Also is it affected by the time of year? btw i am using gwx 3.0 gold with sh3 commander

I'm not sure, but I don't think any of that matters. Sometimes it seems like you can't escape a raging storm even in a harbor..
