...or what visiting Finn could do in Greater London? I will be in London sometime between 20.-27.7. Exact schedule is a little bit uncertain at the moment but visiting British Museum and Imperial War Museum is in plans. How much time should I reserve for them? I'm quite pedantic when viewing collections...

I would also appreciate tips on (affordable) hotels and dining options within Greater London aswell as on use of public transit.

Thanks!

For affordable accommodation, check out Travelodge. They're basic, but get the job done. For public transport, get an Oyster card. It's a prepay top-up card for the bus and tube. It costs a couple of £'s, as well as however much you want to put on it, but is cheaper than paying cash. You can get one in any newsagent with the Oyster sign outside. Jjust touch it on the reader when you get on the bus, but remember to swipe into the tube station where you get on, as well as swiping out of your exit station so you don't get overcharged.

As a earlier poster suggested greenwich is well worth a visit, the attractions he listed plus a great park with spectacular views over the city from up at the observatory. Also you can take one of the boats (not the high speed clippers)up into the city taking in many sights along the way including tower bridge, hms belfast, westminster.
see link http://www.thamesriverservices.co.uk/sightseeing_route.cfm check out offers for oyster/travelcard discounts and half price tickets.

For the British Museum and IWM you'd want a good day in each. I did the BM in a couple of hours and missed most and rushed what I didn't.

As for accommodation I'd seriously check out Air B&B, for about £30-40 I got my own room in woman's house near canary wharf. Travelodge was about 4 or 5 times that cost.

An oystercard is a must.

I went in to London last year with only 1.5 days effective time and it was not enough.

Next time I'm taking a week.

Gentlemen, Thank you very much for your input! :salute:

I have been a bit busy and haven't had much time for planning my journey. I will arrive on Monday 20th of July about 1955 hours and depart on Monday 27th of July about 1500 hours. Will fly with SAS from Helsinki via Stockholm/Oslo to/from London Heatrow and will be staying in little bed&breakfast in Acton.

Tuesday will "orientation day" and wednesday will be spent either in British Museum or IWM not sure yet.
