Hi fellow subsimers. I've had some "adventurers" which I'd like to share with you.

I "quit" about a year ago, going into a nursing home, but I'm recovered enough and had myself discharged and returned home.

A bit over a year ago a courageous woman named Charlotte Dawson ( a big media personality here in Australia ) took her own life after a vicious. vitriolic, downright evil, relentless, social media campaign organised against herself by some university academics who mobilised a whole host of trolls to personally attack her online ( facebook, letters to the editor, etc )

I don't know what their gripe was, but the postings were in capital letters ( like they're shouting ) death threats, pictures of dead bodies, obscene porn, and anything else a sick mind could think of.

For a long time she fought back and managed to track a few of them down and expose them on national tv. Then the attacks got worse, and well everyone's got a breaking point. The poor girl made herself up nicely put on her prettiest dress and hanged herself.

There were a few tribute sites put up on the web by her friends but they were also targeted by the trolls. They've all been taken down now because the damage to them was truly disturbing.

And these sickos are still out there, completely insane with access to technology.

One of the academics responsible was "punished" by being stood down for a few days but later reinstated.

A lot of people were deeply affected by the vile tragedy. Among them Russell Crowe, Richard Wilkins, and Alex Perry. These guys broke down in tears and disbelief at the inhumanity of it all.

Well, I too was deeply affected, I had a heart attack, was completely paralysed down the left side, and needed careing for. So into the nursing home I go.

Whilst there I was slowly recovering the use of my limbs when of all things I contracted Viral meningitis ( from a mosquito bite ). The brain swelled up in the old brainbox but had nowhere to go, so it squeezed in on itself and a lot of delicate "centres" were damaged.

My eyesight deteriorated badly ( London fog ) quality now. I lost most of my hearing and have to wear hearing aids. And I completely lost my sense of smell and my sense of taste. I'm saving a fortune on food 'cause I'm practically living off porridge of various types.

Anyway to cut a long story short I'm recovered enough to have had myself discharged and am back home by my much missed computer.

Is there no longer a "Post pictures of women you think are beautiful " thread?

Hi eisenwurst, glad to see you're back with us.

Re. Charlotte Dawson, the depths some people will go to are truly staggering, especially when they feel 'anonymous'.

Sorry to hear you've had rotten luck with your health, but at least you are still kicking and can enjoy life.

The 'beautiful women' thread disappeared a few weeks ago, never to be heard of again.

Full steam ahead! :arrgh!:

I think the widespread access to technology has its plusses and minuses and you've certainly pointed out a great example of the latter.

The last sighting of the thread in question was near the location of the Bermuda Triangle as I recall.

Great to see you are well enough to return to the forum :sunny:

Hi, eisenwurst, and welcome back to the relative sanity of SubSim.

As Tango said, the "women that you think are beautiful" inexplicably disappeared a short time ago; I have attempted to find out why without directly asking (since we might not like the answer). It's a big mystery...:D

PS/ Recently somebody (not saying who) dared me to re-start the thread, like I would do such a thing.

Congrats on your recovery

Might I suggest you get a pet, it's been proven that dogs and/or cats have a positive effect on people (provided you're not alergic).

Hello 'Eisenwurst'.

i think i remember your leave roughly a year ago, when a lot of people said why should you (including me); you can be here anytime, or come back.
(But then Subsim is like the Hotel California, you can check out, but you can never leave :03: )

Sorry to hear all this you had to go through, but it seems you have mastered a real storm. Welcome back :sunny:

The thread you mentioned is certainly up and runnning,
best wishes,
Catfish

Bermuda Triangle.......... is that anything like the map of Tasmania?

Oh! And welcome back Arnold. ;)

(This is my 2nd attempt at posting this, I'm still a bit uncoordinated.)

Thanks guys for the warm "pierside welcome" after being metaphorically at sea for a year and sustaining battle damage, it warms the heart, your kindness!

Betonov ( you're a good bloke ). My wife died nearly 5 years ago and I've been looking after our 3 cats. The elderly female ( 14 ) was one of those new Persian breeds with the pushed in face ( we got her from a shelter because according to her breeder she wasn't pretty enough to sell :nope: ) Anyway the older she got the more difficulty she had breathing, and things got to the stage where the vet had to send her to join her "Mum".

The male, a ginger tom, got a very aggressive form of cancer last year and was sent "home". There's only one left now, a female Himalayan, a beautiful cat but with a very strong personality. I had to foster her out to a girlfriend whilst I was recovering.

It's good to know you're a fellow animal lover.

Jimbuna, as a moderator there's something I'd like to run by you for a ruling. There's a certain music video I'd like to post in honour of Brag ( I hope he's ok ) but I'm uncertain if it's in violation of subsims rules. So I'll send you a PM with a link I hope you don't mind.

I'm sure the clip's ok but I certainly don't want the site to get into trouble from "The Man" so to speak.

Responded to and I believe we are all sorted now :salute:

Man, eisenwurst, you've been through the wringer. :o I hope you have the support of your family.

Sorry to hear about Charlotte Dawson. I've read a few other accounts of online raging mobs ruining people's lives. It's simply abhorrent. I wouldn't allow that content if I ran Twitter.

^ yes, you hear such things happening a lot, in Germany, too. Not quite as bad, but already among children/scholars using Facebook.. :nope:

(OT: And it is also bad on another level, without mobbing. As mentioned before, look for Jaguar or a Beechcraft online, and have no negative 'points', you get a credit at your bank.
Look for a credit online, and have some negative 'points' for whatever fake reason, better don't ask the bank. Yes, they also read the data, it is not only industrial espionage on international level.
And it has not have anything to do, with reality. You have to (dis)prove all, if you even manage to get a living human, on the phone anymore. Like the esc....t, here at subsim back then. Misunderstanding by G00gle does not help you).
