Cheese rolling contest eh? No food lines, makeshift homeless shelters or riots? I take it the Tories didnt make good on their promise to kill everyone's first born and send the survivors to debtors prison? :D

I like the Worm-charming - part :haha:. I'm going to try that in my backyard tomorrow... Do they have to be repatriated by me afterwards, or am I allowed to use them as bait? :D

How about Extreme ironing when you dive out of a plane as you chase a ball of cheese. :shifty: :D

There is an awful one which I daren't mention, just in case there's someone out there barmy enough to try it; you'll have to PM me if you want to know more, but it involves juggling...

Hmm...

A good number of these "sports" seem to go back in time a good bit; it would appear you Brits were given to great periods of boredom in your past... :)

Nice hat. As regards the tartanry stuff, I view it differently these days following a comment by a crofter friend: "there's only one thing better than a tourist....two tourists".

MGR1

I'll concede that Tartanry is as good a way as any to part gullible tourists from their money. My objection is when the "Brigadoon" image becomes the national identity itself. For some Nats, at least, the maudlin, "Wha's like us?", Flower of Scotland, Robert Burns/Sir Walter Scott image of this country is Scotland, probably because they either don't like, or can't handle, the reality. It's all very well to dream, but dream of a dynamic, modern, 21st Century, democratic European nation. Not some Tartan infested mockery!

Mike.:hmmm:
