I have Win 7 HE and a few days ago I had a 34 item Windows update. Now, my computer is really behaving strange.

So my computer will just shut off, like it's in sleep mode, but the fan is still running. There is no warning, it just turns off at random (3 times yesterday). So I turned it off last night and it was running this morning at the windows opening screen! WTF? How does a computer turn itself on? (not a joke)
I'm the only one that has access to this computer, so someone else didn't use it.

I ran a basic virus check. Nothing. I suspect it has something to do with the update. Anybody seen this before?

How the hell does a computer re-power itself on? I turned the thing off, not in sleep mode or re-boot. It was working just fine, prior to the update.

Power on via network?

Nope. I've never seen this before, prior to yesterday. How do you check what the last windows update was?

Creepy. If it reboots itself on while unplugged, then you might want to call a priest.

Maybe your hardware is going bad. Look in your bios and see what voltages the PSU is running at.

Follow these steps to see which Windows updates are installed on your computer.

Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button http://res2.windows.microsoft.com/resbox/en/windows%207/main/4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg. In the search box, type Update, and then, in the list of results, click Windows Update. (actually:"next")
In the left pane, click View update history. Psst! keep this a secret I'm supposed to be computer illiterate....:()1::shifty: http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc115/nickdawnlevis/satan_med.jpg:stare: Hey! If this happened after the windows update you might want to give system restore a shot and pick the closest date before the update.

Plot thickens. So I turned off the power strip yesterday. I went to turn it on now. Won't power up at all.:/\\!! It's like it's unplugged now. Need to do research. Battery on motherboard? I guess this is my weekend project.:shifty:

How old is the PC?
If it now does nothing at all it could be a faulty PSU.
Do any of the fans turn when pushing the power button?

Sounds like a PSU to me.
You can get nifty little testing devices quite cheaply for them too.

Power Supply fail, FTW. Capacitor fail.
