View Full Version : Watchmen not seeing anything

I started a new game, and went patrolling, but did not see a single west of Britain. I had a sound contact, and I tried to follow it since it was going directly towards me, but it never was seen.

Then, second patrol, still nothing. And I mean going all up and down the west side of Britain, not just one sector. Still, no contacts.

The ONLY time I saw a ship is right now. My game goes to 1 speed, and tells me I am taking damage. I look to bridge, and there is a Black Swan literally within eye sight, shooting at me. But my watchmen do not report it, even before or even after firing. I am being stuck with only sound contacts.

Is my game bugged or something? My previous careers I had plenty of sightings. Or is it from being top time compression? But that did not cause problems before either

It is making me angry, I spent the last two hours getting to this area, to find no ships, and now getting attacked by this thing out of no where. My watchcrew has every rank, from sailor up, it has a full bar of efficiency. I don't understand it, are they just blind or am I just unlucky? just HOW COULD THEY NOT SEE THIS DESTROYER , usually we spot it before they spot me! At least that is how it was in the previous career!

I am just angry at two hours wasted , and wondering if it is just bad luck or maybe a bug. I am using Grey Wolves and Commander thing

You did remember to move your WO to the bridge right? I do not want to sound smart, but I do that from time to time.

yes, they are all up there, I even saw them, turning in circles while we were being shot!

i dont know I think I will just start a new career, maybe this watchman is blind or a collaborator or something ! :wah:

I think this has a simple explanation. Your watch crew is not experienced, and so, they can't ID the ships or see them at range properly. It isn't until the contact gets to within eyesight on a clear day that they can follow the ships. I have been damaged (killed once too) because a watch crew was too slow in detecting things.
The normal watch compliment is 5. Two seamen, two petty officers (watch certified) and one Officer (also watch certified). The four crew keep a look out, 1 in each 90 degree sector, with the Officer (or captain) making periodic checks
in all sectors. When aircraft became more of a threat, two of those watch crew would have to start scanning the skies as well.
And the visual range from the 'bridge' of a U-boat is only about 16Km, even on a good day...
