Just a question to my fellow Captains:

Which is your favorite fictional Sub?

The Seaview from "Voyage to the bottom of the sea"

or The Seaquest from "Seaquest DSV"

Thanks for your opinion :salute:

As fictional subs go, I was always partial to Jules Verne's Nautilus myself. :D

Ah.... The Nautilus I'm sure she has many fans (myself included) but I was asking about the two subs I mentioned.

Any sub with a pipe organ in it has my vote too

I like them both but the Seaview has the flying sub.

The Seaview, i loved that show.

Me too, but I'm more partial to the earlier B & W episodes that revolved around espionage and Cold War plot lines. Towards the end of it's run, Voyage seemed to degenerate into the monster-of-the-week show with the Seaview crew fighting undersea behemoths, aliens, leprechauns and ghosts.

In other words, it did a History Channel. :shifty:

I'm more partial to the original movie. No flying sub, but it did have Barbara Eden. :sunny:

Oh, I also prefer the Seaview, but if you'd let the Nautilus in...

Thought I'd give a honorable mention to the Beatles Yellow Submarine. Even as animation it was a bit surreal to watch as a lad in the Kadena Air Base cinema, but I still have a fond spot for it. :D

SeaQuest had it's babes too but Barbara Eden........:O:

There was a big difference between the movie sub and the TV sub with the Seaview. The bow observation windows were increased for the TV shooting model.

Is the USS Stingray from Down periscope fictional ??

Seriously, I don't like all those future stuff in Seaquest. The Stingray is my favourite

I've never seen Seaquest DSV (has it even been on TV in the UK?) so it has to be the Seaview for me. We grew up with this series anyway, and loved it with a passion.

Couldn't the modders create a "Seaview" for us for SH3? Maybe while they're at it they could give us a few sea-monsters as well, so we've got something to chase...:D

Seriously, I don't like all those future stuff in Seaquest. The Stingray is my favourite Not entirely! Down Periscope began shooting on May 6, 1995 and finished on July 27; The USS Pampanito (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Pampanito_(SS-383)), a Balao-class (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balao_class_submarine)submarine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Submarine) from World War II, now a museum ship (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Museum_ship) and memorial in San Francisco, played the part of the USS Stingray. That sadly neglected vessel is one of my favorite tourist attractions. The WWII Salmon class USS Stingray http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Stingray_(SS-186 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Stingray_(SS-186))>http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e1/USS_Stingray_%28SS-186%29.jpg Stingray (SS-186) received twelve battle stars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_star) for World War II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II) service. She holds the record for most war patrols—16—of any American submarine. She sank two cargo vessles-Tamon Maru, Ikushima Maru, transport Harbin Maru and a converted gun boat, Saikyo Maru. and performed every other type of mission a submarine can. She was scrapped in 1946. At the end of Up Periscope when the crew was exiting the sub, you could tell by the hood over the stairwell that they were egressing from a museum boat.:yep:

Wasn't a Seaview done or started for SH4 at one time?
As for flying subs?
MrFleck did that already.

Stingray FTW :arrgh!:

Out of the two choices though I like Seaview for her style and looks and Seaquest DSV for her technology and of course Stephanie Beacham... Yummy .:arrgh!:

Cheers

I'm gonna have to go WAY against the grain and choose the SeaQuest. I loved the way it looked, and I really liked the show. I haven't watched the show in years, but one of my favorite episodes was when they came upon a sunken cruise ship. As they were investigating it, they spotted a light on in one of the staterooms. It was their halloween episode, if I remember right.

Well so far the Seaview is winning hands down, my thoughts so far:

I prefer Seaview too (Barbara Eden is a plus)
I agree that later in it's run it became "monster of the week" :wah:

Jules Verne was a genius. and the Nautilus is in a class by itself.

Yes I too grew up on "Stingray", "Diver Dan" "Supercar" etc. :D

"Yellow Submarine" just never did it for me. :wah:

"Down Periscope" good flick, but not fictional sub. It did have Lauren Holly :woot:

Anyway, Seaquest was OK, but looked like a high tech squid.

Like the original StarTrek Enterprise - where the bridge LOOKED LIKE a bridge, In Star Trek The next generation the bridge looks like a cumfy living room. :wah:

The Seaview was more "Sub Like " :yeah:

Just for fun, let's throw in the Skydiver submarine from the British TV series UFO. It had a flying sub of sorts too. Pretty cool looking.

The interior view wasn't bad either. :D

I'm late to this but have to go for SeaQuest. I actually like that it looks like a squid. I do feel they should have another sub which resembles Moby Dick for balance though. Maybe when people dump the fascination for Mars and return to exploring our closer unknown oceanic frontiers?

Of course nothing compares with the Jules Verne Nautilus and it's Disney representation. :)
