Loading a saved game is really a pain in the ... I try all the tricks available and to no result. I must try at least 4 time each time i want to load a saved game. I'll keep looking on this forum for the trick that might work for me but i dont think i will continue to play for very long if it keep crashing like that. :hmmm:

Subsim save games are tricky, this is because of a stock bug.

the following rules should be adhered to:

1. Avoid saving the game if you are located within 50KM of land
2. Avoid saving the game if you are within 50KM of a ship you have sunk
3. never save the game if you are submerged
4. Never save the game if you are within 50KM of any ship

and no matter what you do...

5. Never, ever feed your save game after midnight

failure to follow these rules results in a number of gremlins - some of which can cause the loading process to crash the game.

well that's an informative post full of information so we can help with the problem.
:o

GoldenRivet stated the basic 'rules' that are tried and true.
OP failed to state mods, save conditions, etc.

Yep i think my last saved game was not in the 50 km of a sunk ship. How can you be sure of the 50 km near any ships ? We cant detect ship that far !?

List all mods you have installed.
There are some known and proven to cause CTD or failed save loads.

I only have GWX gold. No other mod. I think i'll try a new career again. its the second game i start because of failed saves. its kind of of a disapointment when you have a great start in a new career to lose all that you have done to a bug.

Crashes usually come when trying to load at sea. Don't your previous saves made at port work?

I´m on my 15th patrol, and the other day I ran across my very first iceberg I ever saw in the game - running GWX.

the save I made after spotting the 'berg would not load, causing the game to crash to desktop. had to revert to the "in base" save at the beginning of the patrol.

weighing minor things like this against the advantages of the mods, it's totally worth it.

To the game the icebergs are ships so no saving near them if your SH3 is unstable!

BTW have you tried the solution described here:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166283

With enough memory, UAC off, Windows indexing off and read-only attributes ticked off the save games can be very stable, in my experience.

Yep i tried that, and it work for a time and the boxes keep checking them again. I must do it all again in the next game.

I'm considering going back to bas after each session of play. Is there any cons for going back to base even if you have not spent all your torpédos ?

Two reasons:

1) It is a pain.

2) It is not necessary.

There is another solution. No one has found it necseeary to RTB before saving. Work with the guys here and we will solve your problem. Have you done a complete uninstall, registry cleanup, and reinstall? With no mods except GWX, that should take maybe half an hour.

You arsn't using Steam, are you?

Yep sir i'm using steam... If steam is the problem, i have no problem buying another game from another source if it could help me. I'm that desperate.

And no i havent triend another clean install. I buy the game, played it once and install GWX. I've played a couple of times thats all. I've played maybe 10 or 12 times and already on my third career because of that bug.

While there are special procedures that have to be used when modding the Steam version, I don't recall seeing a save-game problem associated with the Steam game. So you might want to first consider a clean reinstall. Uninstall your game completely, including deleting the save folders under your User folder. Download a good free registry cleaner, install it, and run it. I use Reg Vac, but there are others that should work just as well. Then re-download your SH3 install file from Steam. Install and run it. Make sure there are no problems with saved games. Re-download GWX3, and install it. Then try a career and mid-patrol save. If you are still having the same CTD problem, find Desertstriker's tutorials on YouTube that explain how to mod the Steam game.

Hey, one more question: what is your hardware setup? Are you sure that your rig will run SH3? Intel on-board graphics chips, for instance, will not. Cause CTDs on loading....

Ok first my hardware is up to date with a good graphic card and 8 gig of ram. I'm sure that this is not the problem.

I'll try the clean install. Its not a big deal and i cant really play anyway. I think i had installed the mod correctly but i'll doubkle check that. Thx for your help, i'll keep you posted.

I reinstall the game and from a couple of play already, no saved games problem. Sadly i'm beginning to think that its a GWX3 problem. Its just not the same without that mod ! I think i will try to install it again just to be sure.
