Is there a point in doing the training mission ans passing the exam at the naval academy ? Does it give some bonus for the campaign ?

In the Grey Wolves Mod if you pass any of the exams, Navigation is the easiest, you will get 1000 renown points. You only have to do it once and all future careers will have those points. Not sure about other mods or stock game. :salute:

NYGM doesn't deal with renown at all - it only keeps track of tonnage sunk. So there is no renown given for passing the Naval Academy exams. And none is needed, since any upgrades which are available can always be taken at zero renown cost.

is it possible to get this renown after starting your career? I am in the middle of my first patrol, and did not think to get this extra renown. I want my IX and every point counts!

Yes, you can edit one of the game files, I think it is careers.something, and give yourself as much renown as you like. Handy for getting homing torpedoes later in the war.

I don't remember the exact file but if you search for "renown" you will find threads on it.

Depending on performance (I have the 'konvoi' course at Average, all the rest are at Excellent) the stock game will reward bonus renown - reichsmarks into your Kaleun's bank account. 1500.00 in my case. And it carries over every time I start a new career.

Yes, even with the stock game. You can get it anytime, and it will apply to all careers in the game.
