View Full Version : Clarkson Vs BBC
Jeremy Clarkson is no stranger to gaffs & clangers on Top Gear but have things now come to ahead with his suspension and Top Gear pulled off air this Sunday. Over 200,000 people sign a petition they want him back but Clarkson's contract is up at the end of the month, is this the end of Top Gear?

Can't say I'd miss Clarkson but I'd certainly miss Top Gear.
Clarkson is Clarkson who has made too many gaff's now maybe ITV will snap him up. As for Top Gear it's been going down hill even the great adventures are not as good as they were. Looks like the curtain is coming down.
(((UP DATE FROM SKY NEWS)))
Next weeks Top Gear has been pulled and the week after that not looking good.

Sunday's episode of Top Gear will not be shown, and it is understood the two final episodes in the series will also be dropped.

I've watched Top Gear. Not sure what the problem with Clarkson is. I thought all three made it a good show they should keep him on. Just make sure he gets fed. :)

Clarkson is Top Gear the other two are just there for the ride. Without Clarkson what is there? Hammond's white teeth and hair dye & May's slow driving and lectures on what ever.

Jason Dawe?
He was usurped by May who'd featured in the final series of the original Top Gear and was wanted by Clarkson and Andy Wilman. May refused until he watched it and Dawes was shown the door. I didn't like him.

Really? I've noticed your pathological hatred of anything Tory but what has this got to do with it?
Granted if he did punch his producer over not getting a steak, he should be punished it is out of order. No one is that big. However regardless of whether he is Tory, Labour or UKIP celebrity culture being what it is in the UK he will be laughing all the way to the bank. He makes money for the network. Only if his producer who he allegedly punched takes it to court might it pull him up short.
Take a look at Johnathon Ross and Russel Brand...pair of proverbial, lost their jobs but they got back in via the back door and another employer.
The heat is on..
Four members of the same family who overheard the row say Clarkson told a colleague he would have him fired because there was no hot food at the end of a day's filming.

I am not sure the show could not continue with out Clarkson. Given the freedom, I think the other two could put on good sketches. It was just that Clarkson was overbearing at times.
If they could find the right woman, that could be an interesting combination.
In my opinion, the quality of Clarkson's work has gone down. I feel he was resting on his laurels and sometimes just phoning it in (I can't find any more lame cliches to use).
"Hello, welcome to Top Gear. I am Jeremy Clarkson and I am going to insult stuff, act all curmudgeonly and make funny faces." Yeah, I already saw that episode.
Top Gear is one of my favourite shows. It is about the only TV show that I watch these days. It is great to watch while cooking dinner. But recently, the ration of hits to misses has been going in the wrong direction.

I think any single presenter will struggle, and the best way for Top Gear to stay alive is with weekly guest presenters a la Have I Got News For You. Not ideal, but gives a wide range of people for the viewer to warm to or not.
Clarkson was Top Gear he came up with the ideas the planning the editing the research you name it he did it.
May did say on SKY News "we're a package" dose seem to suggest....we shall see.

Saw a tweet from May that he left the program, and he now has to write up an ebay listing for his ferrari, with the tag #unemployed.
May will land on his feet if he wants to, he was an editor for an Auto mag before, but they probably won't rehire him because he supposedly resigned by over capitalizing all the letters of the headings of an article, and the capital letters all spelled out something vulgar IIRC.
They all had careers before, they'll find something.
The ratings will be deent at first, as people will be curious as to how the show progresses, but it will either crash or thrive. I can see new blood being the energy the show needs, but if they get the wrong ones, it won't last.
I know he's been tweeting using the hashtag unemployed since the BBC took Top Gear off the air, I didn't realise he'd actually formally resigned. Still, we'll see, all three could easily pick something up on Sky or ITV.
Meanwhile, the investigative report has been released:

Top Gear's James May has ruled out returning to the show without Jeremy Clarkson.
In an interview with MediaGuardian he said: "Me and Hammond with a surrogate Jeremy is a non-starter, it just wouldn't work. That would be lame, or 'awks' as young people say."
"It has to be the three of us. You can't just put a surrogate Jeremy in and expect it to carry on. It would be forced. I don't believe they would be stupid enough to try that.

Anyone want to bet all this drama is staged to boost ratings and Clarkson will be back.
Dropping like flies!

Executive producer Andy Wilman has quit the show.
I think we are going to hear within a week Hammond will also quit, he has sort of hinted and now May said hes going I can't see Hammond remaining.
Coming soon to BBC2 a new exciting dynamic new car show...TOP GEAR 2...bigger better and not one laugh not one joke not one out of place remark and most important no more insulting people in other countries.

"Top Gear" host James May says the show without Clarkson would be "lame" and will only return with the original team. I would tend to agree, but now that May and Wilman and possibly Hammond out of the picture who knows what will happen now.

All four (Clarkson, Hammond, May and Wilman) could be planning a return with a different broadcaster:
Andy Wilman interestingly also joined the trio at the exclusive gathering - just hours before he sensationally quit as the Top Gear executive producer.

Rule me out if its pay to view, why don't they just go on YouTube and they can ratchet it up to a new low...I mean high. :rotfl2:

Probably Sky, I would think. Murdoch's Empire likes to pinch things from the BBC.

No chance here..
Ch4 and SKY have ruled themselves out taking Clarkson.
And the other two go where Clarkson goes, CH5 probably will say no they have their own car show so who? :hmmm:

I'd rather watch Australian Top Gear then watch American Top Gear. I've seen a few episodes of American Top Gear but they where "meh" when compared to British Top Gear.

Same, looks like ending in "ing"
So what about Chris Evens taking over?
I think the rating will plunge and good night Top Gear as it passes into the history books of tomorrow.

I lose even more sympathy for Clarkson (which was already pretty low) when he played the "I thought I had cancer" card..As if that justified violence.

Man up Clarkson. You hit the man because you are a spoiled TV personality who did not get his hot meal when he wanted it. Accept the consequences of your actions.
but that other people facing stress "manage to cope better than I did".
Ya think?

.@AmazonVideoUK now saying I can't be their chief drone pilot. Apparently they want us to make a car show.
:haha::haha::haha:
Amazon Prime what a joke, did you see them the other week boasting about excusive amazon prime sale was nothing but a sale in a brick & brack shop.
Face facts its over they will never ride high as they did on the beeb. This is the slippery slope to a black hole of no return.

Clarkson and Anthony Bourdain team up to drive cool vehicles to restaurants in various countries, drink too much, and then throw down. Better than any wrestling show for sure.
Duck Dynasty is better than any wrestling show!:haha:

£80 quid for the pub and a cheap hooker and still have change to buy a bottle of pimm's. :know: :88)

You don't need to fork out £80 for it, just wait till the first season is over and take out their trial period for free.
Amazon's biggest failing with Prime as far as I can see is it is a once a year payment, not monthly like Netflix. £6.99 per month is a lot easier to find for most than £80.

He obviously expected a lot of stick, but Richard Osman was just acting very immature, I like him (and Clarkson) usually but he just got on my nerves last night with his incessant 12-year-old's banter.
As the show finished you could see them both chatting so I would assume they were quite friendly, either than or Clarkson was doing his best impression of Ronnie Pickering. :o

I got a bad feeling he was paid extra to put the boot in more. :hmmm:
Maybe wrong but I would not put it pass the BBC to do that, Merton defused the situation a bit with his punch up gag.

Paul's been lacking for maybe a decade now, nowhere near what he used to be like, only one or two funny things that actually make me laugh per series, that was one of them.

“I would like to say sorry, once again, to Oisin Tymon for the incident and its regrettable aftermath,” Clarkson said. “I want to reiterate that none of this was in any way his fault. I would also like to make it clear that the abuse he has suffered since the incident is unwarranted and I am sorry too that he has had to go through that. I am pleased that this matter is now resolved. Oisin was always a creatively exciting part of ‘Top Gear,’ and I wish him every success with his future projects.” Source: http://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/celebrity/jeremy-clarkson-settles-legal-dispute-with-former-%e2%80%98top-gear%e2%80%99-producer/ar-BBpVpsa?li=BBnb7Kz

The only way it could survive is if it tries very very hard not to be like the previous Top Gear show.
It would be a hoot if the new Stig were Clarkson. Although the stretched out racing suit might be a give-away. :D

What i don't understand is that this is a big TV show, with lots of staff. Few things are done spontaneously. Segments are planned and timed to fit the format.
I find it hard to believe that at no time did any staff member question whether this sketch would be a good idea.
