I've noticed that after attacking a DD and not sunk of course it remains stationary in order to listen better but the automatic targeting system says that it is at a speed of 8 (or sometimes 9) knots.

You might have the position keeper on.

That's a fairly common bug, sometimes if I save/exit the game/restart/reload the save it fixes it. I still have 1.4, hopefully they fixed it for 1.5. Most irritating with auto targeting is when a convoy or task force gets tangled up and ships are backing to avoid collisions, the TDC isn't programmed for backing so if a ship is backing at 2 knots the gyro angle is set to lead ahead of the bow instead of the direction it's actually going.

It's not a dream, if it was a dream there would be rum. :arrgh!:

Version is 1.5.I don't touch the position keeper.Obviously it's a bug.

For those ships that reverse course I always wait until they are moving forward again and then lead them a little extra to compensate for their increasing speed until they get to they desired speed. What is a nice find is an escort or merchant that had to come to a stop at close range due to traffic and nail them.

As far as listening for you, I was on patrol last night and I came upon a convoy and had hit to large tankers which sunk and brought a freighter to a stand still. I then dove to 500 feet and reloaded. I rose 2000 yards south of my position then hit two more freighters in the convoy and only one sank. The only fish I had left were in my external stores (Type VII) and I could not surface to load in order to finish off the crippled freighter. I dropped to 500 feet almost underneath the freighter. The escorts had been pounding my previous position for my first attack. They gave up as the convoy moved forward and after about 4 hours all of them were gone ...

Except one.

He sat there for 24 hours ... I could hear him on sonar but he hardly moved at all. 24 hours ... I wanted to sink that ship so bad but could do nothing.

I decided to wake every one up and head south at 500 feet and 2 knots. I surfaced 5000 yards south and began reloading when I detected radar signals to the south of this present position. I finished reloading as they were not getting any closer and went to periscope depth to listen ... there were five more escorts sitting still ... listening for me to run farther. I couldn't believe it. I moved off east of the crippled ship turned to 270 and moved back towards it. At 4500 yards I fired one torpedo which sent it to the bottom. It was only then that the escort sitting 1500 yards from it began to move once more.

I turn east and returned to Brest.

Okay, so did you try saving exiting and reloading the save?

It is a glitch dont use it. It is a case of the game following acceleration of an object not movement of the object.
Think of it like this ... the ship is hit but does not sink. The weight of the water flooding makes it slow but the increase engine output causes the game in some part of the hard code to think it is moving faster than it really is. Some hard code aspects can not be corrected because the hard code is not as easily adjusted as other aspects of the game.

In cases like that if you have the targets shown on the map go to your attack map after you have placed your scope at 000.

On the attack map you'll see a line moving away from your submarine. This line represents your line of fire and will change from tube to tube and also change as you spin the scope. If your at a stand still and the target is at a stand still then slowly move the scope while going back to the attack map and wait for the line to point to the target. Fire ... you'll hit it.

If your moving and the target is at a stand still then you either time the shot if it is not at 000 or you steer your course to put the bow at 000 in the scope and fire then.

This will also work on foggy nights where visibility is low and you can not use the auto targeting to get a lock on your target. Sometimes you can still see the target but you can not get or hold a lock so line your scope with the target making sure you look on your attack map for how it is lining up.

Northwest of Truk I ran into a Task Force in a monsoon, Visibility was down to maybe 100 yards. Knowing the lead ship is normally an escort I went after the second ship in the line. Using radar bearings only and watching only the attack map I lined my bow up and at 1000 yards fired four torpedoes. All four hits. I turned away and watched my radar contacts on the attack map. Some ships came to my last position on the attack so they must be escorts. The second ship barely slowed at all so I spun the scope around to 180 and fire my stern tube and got three hits.

Now the ship began to slow considerably. It did not stop however. I had reloaded and shot a spread of three cuties. They danced and moved around the hunting escorts and I got two hits sinking two DD from them. Moving around the Task force within 3000 I lined up again on where the second ship had placed itself and at 1000 yards fire four more fish. I got three hits and it came to a stop soon after. I moved off and waited and soon after it sank.

I had sank two Destroyers and one Yamato Battleship using radar only and watching my attack map. Never getting a lock and never seeing the enemy. I was running the latest TMO+RSRD and a few other mods at the time.

No, because I had already tried another solution in order to hit the DD, with the aid of Attack Map.I'll try the save/reload method next time I encounter this bug.
Thanks
