View Full Version : Strange line in the water

I've just installed SH3 (and also now Living Silent Hunter), but in both the stock and modded game there's always a strange white line artefact in the water, in about the 10 O'Clock position - it's always there in the same place, no matter which way I look! I get this in both in the stock standard resolution and in wide screen. Does anyone else get this and maybe know how to fix this?
I've circled it in red below:

I have an Nvidia 970M GPU with the latest drivers installed

Nope and I just have the standard Nvida settings for my GPU

Is the card active? I had a similar problem and it turned out that the onboard graphics were set as the default while the wonderful card was sitting there doing nothing.

[edit] Forgot to tell how to do it.
1. Open the Control Panel
2. Scroll down to Nvidia Control Panel
3. Right near the top click on 'Preferred Graphics Processor'
4. Select 'High-performance Nvidia Processor'
5. Reboot computer
I don't know if that will help you, but it sure worked for me.

Aha! I think that may have been it - In the Nvidia control panel I've now set it to use the Nvida GPU as the preferred graphics processor for sh3.exe and now the line in the water has vanished!
This has introduced some other oddities, though - on starting the game, I now just see a black screen for some time, then it goes straight to the Living Silent Hunter loading screen - previously it displayed some kind of branding video I think. Also the game locks-up after loading 100% of the "Ships and Planes" section, have to kill it in task manager, and even that doesn't always work!
What Nvidia settings are recommend for this game?

I've experienced that too. I'm using GWX, and it blanks their opening screen and the starting stock movie. Once I got everything set up I don't see it, because I use SH3 Commander and have it set to not show the opening movies anyway.
I haven't seen the lock-up you describe, so I can't help there.

That I don't know, since it seems to work alright for me the way it is.

Okay, as long as it doesn't cause any other in-game issues, I'm not bothered

I was thinking something like this, though more up-to-date:
