I was given a search and rescue mission.

My objective is to search for downed airmen near Rabaul within a 50 nautical mile radius. There's only one plane and I have to rescue all its crew. The problem is how am I going to spot this plane and its crew if there are two airbases near Rabaul and hostile planes are roaming around my area everyday, I can only sail peacefully on the surface at night.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Mod Lineup:

You need to spot their smoke pots from periscope depth or on the surface so you will have to do a lot of crash diving to avoid the enemy aircraft. The pilots will drift so once you plot them on your map maneuver under them and then surface and approach. Yes it is a risky mission but doable. Once you get very close to their smoke you'll get a rescue pilot icon on the screen. Hit that and then get back under quick unless you can reach the next one before the enemy aircraft find you.

As mentioned before, find on surface/periscope depth, the magenta/pink/purple smokes, go there, slow down, lock-on the pilots and push the rescue button, and wait for the messages confirming the rescue. You must be very close to them, to lock-on the pilots.

I would search on the surface any way. You have plenty of time to dive if an enemy aircraft is spotted. Stop playing it safe.
