Anyone here play both of these? Would like to know your opinion on which one you prefer if you have played both and why. :06: I'm a veteran of SH3+GWX but am thinking about delving into Operation Monsun. Just want to hear some opinions before I put in the work of installing it.

It has been ages since I touch SH3. Once 4 came out that is all I play. I enjoy the challenge of Operation Monsun. I find it a greater challenge than playing TMO+RSRD. They are good mods but I still feel Operation Monsun is harder even after adding the harder escorts in TMO.

Both are great!
I actually very slightly prefer Operation Monsun, although it doesn't have quite the extent of features that GWX does (but then again, OM was mostly assembled by one man!)
Great things about OM:
-Type IX: OM is unquestionably the better choice for the Type IX fan - the campaign in distant waters is just a lot more developed, with lots more effort put into traffic, features, mission tasking, etc. There is a lot more going on in distant waters, and the way it's presented is superb. The Type IX itself is a star in OM. Now, OM is no slouch when it comes to the Type VII and the others either and it has a totally complete U-boat campaign - but if it's just a good option for the average Type VII fan, I think it's an absolute must-try for any Type IX fan!
-Campaign traffic: easily the best of ANY German version of SH, it has the best-researched and most nuanced representation of convoy and merchant ship traffic, which is the bread-and-butter of the U-boat war. It's almost at the level of retentiveness RSRDC (where everything was pulled directly from historical records on ship movements), but on a much wider scale
-Graphics: it doesn't have quite all the bells and whistles of GWX when it comes to units and new stuff, but overall SHIV just looks better and runs smoother than SHIII IMO. Fast loading times, 0 problems scaling to different resolutions, better stability, much better crew management model are a plus - though that mostly goes to the credit of SHIV as a platform.
-Enemy difficulty: somewhere between GWX and NYGM in SH3 terms, it hits a very good spot when it comes to difficulty, one that I'm very comfortable with. It is much easier to get into it as a GWX player, than say going from that to NYGM or TMO levels of challenge.
-Targeting: although it takes a bit to learn and even more to master, the manual targeting system (slide rules on your attack periscope screen, manual input into the TDC) that comes with OMEGU (environment & graphics update for OM) is both the best and most accurate in any version of SH, IMO. For the simulation die-hard only!
I don't think OM is BETTER than GWX, or NYGM, or LSH - but it's an experience that's very worth the effort IMO :yep: In my personal playing preference, I rank OM just slightly below NYGM, and slightly above GWX - but in all truth, there's things I like about all three of them!
