I got the ammo, what I don't have is the balls.
I'm on U-346, from Bergen patrolling BD23.
Large Task Force convoy approaching me, I of course went to silent running and periscope death to scout out the situation.. There's 20 ships, 7 of them are C-Class Destroyers.
Some of you must be thinking "hahahahah thats easy"
There are TWENTY ships.
Largest patrol I've ever seen in SH3, 2, and 1.
god help me m8

Welcome Aboard! :sunny:
It's never easy. It's also good that you're thinking like a real captain who cares about his crew and his boat, and not just a gamer who says "It's only a game! I'm goin' in!"
On the other hand it is only a game, and we are able to learn even from death and come back to try again. Figuring out exactly where each of the escorts are can help with the decision, but sometimes running away really is the better part of valor. I think alone against seven escorts I would choose the "run away" option.
There is a Single Mission in the files called 'Happy Times'. It's my favorite, because it pits you against a rather large convoy with only one escort. The only problem is that you are on a time limit - a large group of destroyers are heading out to pick up the convoy and escort it home. It's a great way to practice because it doesn't affect your career in any way.
Whatever you decide, good luck with it.

I read your reply, and seeing as my men were dying for the Iron Cross, I decided to attack.
I went in from the East, and targeted the largest vessels. Upon sinking the first, who spotted me and like an idiot didn't alert his buddies, two more vessels broke out to depth charge the **** out of the area where they believed I was.
Felt like Gibraltar in Das Boot..
After they gave up, and returned to formation I fired two torpedoes, sunk both and of courrsseeeeee!
Game crashed.
I figure I'd run out of torpedoes if I loaded up the save, get abunch of tonnage and return to base as a hero but with the risk of enemy aircraft coming in and in effect, having to dive to the bottom of the ocean.
Danke!

Game crashed.
That's always a bit of an immersion killer don't you find.. :haha: :wah:
I'd look into the reasons why your game crashed, just so that this tragedy won't happen again. I always found my SHIII extremely stable during gameplay. Here's my set up if it can help you any... I play it on WinXP (for some reason I feel like this OS would be more stable), turn off all background programs including anti-virus and internet. I try to keep my mods to a sane level :haha:
That's about it I guess, hope any of those help.

The thing is, I'm playing with vanilla.
I haven't played SH3 in a good time, so I wanted to get the ropes together before I download GW and other great campaign mods.
I've only downloaded one mod, to help the resolution
(black bars on the left and right)
Which failed, so I stripped it from my folder.
I found a corrupt file in there though, something with the script that had to be changed from "False" to "True"
