Are you using any mods, or the stock game?

I believe the stock game required you to remain within X miles of the marker for Y hours/days. Not that it's mentioned anywhere. If you search, you should be able to find some old threads that talk about the different mission types and what is required.

If you look at the patrol missions in the mission editor it's 2,880 minutes, which is 48 hours. I've changed all my campaign patrol missions to 60 so I can skip the part where you have to wait within a mile or so of the star for 48 hours. I'd upload it but I'm getting so senile I've forgotten how to package the blasted thing with the correct path stored in WinZip.

A mile! Good grief. In RSRDC most of the missions give you 100 nm to patrol.

I don't remember the exact radius but before I figured out that dodge I got in the habit of stopping withing a mile of the star and putting on accelerated time for 48 hours. IRL they were assigned a patrol area and weren't supposed to leave those boundaries without permission, if they went off chasing better fishing they'd get court martialed when an enemy task force cruised through the area they were supposed to be in.
