Hi all,
I've noticed some .dds files in the root directory of SH4 Gold. I'd like to ask as to what application you all are using to open these graphic files with?
Is it dxtbmpx or some other?
Thank you,
:)

Paint.Net is a good free program. I'll post a link in a second.

I use IrfanView to view the pics. Also free and lots of plugins available. To edit DDS files I use GIMP with a DDS plugin.

paint.net is better because you don't need to convert or unconvert the file or use plugins, you just open, edit, and save, easy peasy

Oh OK, I have Paint.NET and have been using it for years. Gimp was always to complicated for me.
I was just curious as to what most of you were using.
Thanks. :salute:

Yup, been using Irfanview for years, too. Great little app. :yeah:
Got the GFO mod installed. No CTD's so things are working as they should.

Make sure to note the comment at the bottom of that download page. 4.0.5 is the newest version. Alternatively, you can use Ninite (https://ninite.com/). Great freeware installation application which itself is freeware.
(Paint.net requires .Net 4.5 or higher (also available through Ninite.))

FWIW: I believe that those who are running older PC's as I am, can only use Paint.NET 3.5.11 without Net 4.5.
I believe 3.5.11 is the last version supported for Windows XP. I do know I couldn't get Paint.NET to work with any later versions.
You can find most any older version of any app at, oldapps.com

For just viewing I use IrfanView with the required plugin. For editing I use Paint Shop Pro (currently X7) with the Nvidia Photoshop plugin installed.

GIMP is a great program to use. It is not that much different than photoshop but it is free.

I have PSP 7 and was never able to get the DDS plugins to work. So I use DXTBmp from http://www.mwgfx.co.uk/ to send to paint shop pro 7. I was never able to figure out gimp or paint.net either, but I'm an old geezer and I'm used to PSP 7 and Martin Wright's utilities.

You have to have PSP specifically point to the folder for the DDS plugin. Just installing it in the PSP plugin folder doesn't work for some reason. Go to File/Preferences/File Locations/Plug-ins, and add the folder with the DDS plugin in it. It works just fine for me when I do that.

Tried that, I get a "plug in generated a general protection fault" error.

Hmm. As I said, it works fine for me. :hmmm:
You are using the one from below?

Have you tried reinstalling it? Maybe it got corrupted.

I'm looking for Jasc Paint Shop Pro 7 in your link, all I see is Adobe PhotoShop, which I don't have.

That's the one I'm using. PSP will use PS plugins, at least the older ones like this one. I used to use an even older version until I found this one.
Just install it into your PSP Plugins folder, then do the method I mentioned earlier to use it.
