They say the bidding is to start at one million dollars, but that you should buy at least five to get a useable fighter plane.

“The Royal Saudi Air Force is putting on auction 79 of its F-5 fighter jet fleet. Interested parties are invited to submit their bidding price(s) …”
This week the Saudi Air Force and the Pretoria mission of the kingdom confirmed that the offer is genuine, the auction legitimate and that anybody can make a bid for one or several supersonic and missile-capable warplanes.
For just a few dollars compared to what a new F-35 would cost we should manufacture these planes again to fly without pilots at tree top & sea wave level for an all out war carrying a nuclear payload or even an airburst weapon knocking out all electronics in the area of explosion in case a bullet got lucky.

I'll have a rummage down the back of the sofa and see what change I can come up with. (Will they accept an IOU? :hmm2:)

In before Jim!:woot:
So will Mrs. Buna allow you to expand your flat to get one of these?:hmmm:
Watch Iran use a third party to buy some of them. Then they will proclaim, they have built a new fighter that can defeat anything the west can come up with.:D
I was thinking
Wonder if IS is trying, through third party, bed/buy (on) some of them
Markus
They can re use it for Top Gun 2 - the return of the elusive MIG 28!

I don't know that they'd pass them off as new. They might use them as replacements or spare parts for the ones they already have.

Saudi Arabia selling weapons to Iran would be like the US selling theirs to China - they're very much regional and ideological opponents, and although the chance of them going to direct war with each other is low, they're not so dumb as to give their enemy an edge. Geographically and ideologically, they're at loggerheads - both are a threat to each other in their access to the Gulf, the main economic artery for both of them; and they couldn't be more different in their approach to governance - Saudis are a deeply conservative, traditional, Sunni monarchy; Iran is a radical, populist Shia theocracy that started out by overthrowing a traditional monarchy.
So, no deal there!

I'm holding out for an A-10, wonder if I can get the contract to scrap them all and have the USAF pay me $1.00? USN style! LMAO
Where do you get spent uranium for the Lyman reloader?

From a nuclear power plant DU is made from spent fuel rods. I think you'd have a hard time buying an A-10 too many Hog drivers will refuse to be sepearted from their beloved bird.
Here's the loader for an A-10 one of the many pieces of ground support equipment I have worked on don't dare breath in or touch the dust you had to wear a bunny suit and respirator to work on them.http://i766.photobucket.com/albums/xx304/keeperofsouls/Various%20stuff/a-10-ordinance_912.jpg (http://s766.photobucket.com/user/keeperofsouls/media/Various%20stuff/a-10-ordinance_912.jpg.html)

Apparently the U$AF hates Europe because some of those terrible, terrible, terrible friendly firing "cold war era" A-10s were "just" deployed there. The USAF will just have to make due till it has $ome new $hiny military indu$trial complex garbage that can't provide clo$e air $upport.

Better decide who really is treasonous, I think the villain named his own poison. :salute:

A-10s have been stationed in Europe on a constant basis since they first entered service so I honestly have no idea what you are talking about. In the old day they flew from Spanghalem and Sembach AB Germany as well as from Bentwaters. The other major A-10 basing is in South Korea.
Today they fly only from Spanghalem(tail code SP) AB in Germany Sembach is closed down today its only used for housing the runway had a bend in it. It was decided in 1993 to move all German based Hogs to Spanghalem additionaly they split the F-16 wing at Ramstein AB between SP and Avaino in Italy.
The primary stateside A-10 base is Davis-Monthan in Arizona. Several air national guard and reserve units fly the A-10 as well some having swapped F-16s for Hogs this was due to the greater effect that the Hog has in COIN type warfare.

Indeed, used to see the A-10s a lot flying out of Bentwaters, they were pretty awesome to see. I think the only two USAFE bases in the UK now are Mildenhall and Lakenheath and IIRC Mildenhall is running down now, which means the Ospreys will probably be leaving, which is a shame, been quite nice to see them passing through from time to time.
Bentwaters closing was a real sucker punch, especially since they'd only just finished upgrading the runway. :/\\!! Still, Carolyn Grace flies her Spitfire (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHqGSDCWVFk) from Bentwaters now, and the Cold War Museum has been getting a steady supply of aircraft to do up (http://www.bcwm.org.uk/museum-aircraft/).

The article was a bit vauge only saying that A-10s from Davis where deployed to SP it failed to mention that in fact SP has a wing of A-10s and at least two squadrons of F-16s as full time residents. They often came to Ramstein during Kosovo to get gunned up there being a huge munitions dump at Ramy.
Used to drive past it fairly regular driving to the farside parking slots back there. Those harded two jet hangars are still there but not longer store aircraft. I did sometimes find missing equipment that visiting reserve and guard units had "borrowed" it was a speciality of mine hunting. Found an engine swap crane that some guard herc unit had flipped don't ask but they managed to right it some how we just discovered the bent steel I'd have loved have seen the "how do we solve this" discussion. Another time I had to go get a generator that had been snuc on a herc to Kosovo I bought beer for the right person to find that one.
