For the love of Pete, how can this be happening with the mainstream media? I mean, if this was Fox News, hoo-boy. :)
The claim that his helicopter was hit by an RPG in Iraq blew up in his face. Now the NBC anchor is busily apologizing to salvage his reputation—and career.
The Brian Williams Apology Tour has begun—and who knows where it will end?
The NBC Nightly News anchor publicly apologized three times Wednesday—during his regular broadcast, in a Facebook post, and in Stars and Stripes—after the military-focused newspaper published a damning story that Williams and NBC have been claiming falsely “for years” that, during the 2003 Iraq invasion, he was aboard a U.S. Army helicopter that was hit and forced down by rocket-propelled grenades.

I doubt he'll be starring in any future Rambo films then.

Claiming false battle honors is an indication of moral turpitude; A Chief of Naval Operations, Jeremy Boorda committed suicide over 2 'V' valor pins, minor decorations, on his service ribbon rather than face the mortification and embarrassment to the Navy.

I wouldnt call the V device a minor decoration. After all, it signifies that the person who wears it has been awarded it for actions during combat with enemy forces. :hmmm:
I wouldn't kill myself over that, but I can sort of understand it.

Correct and thankyou! and my humble apology to any and all who wear the device. I only meant it's relative significance to the principal award to which it is attached to the principle award- the application varies by service and may be for hazardous service. This can be with stars and oak leaf clusters, all on the same ribbon. General Petraeus for example, also with moral turpitude problems- he can explain to his wife?!! :hmmm:, wears his on his Bronze Star. Poor ADM Boorda need not have committed suicide IMHO as other high ranking officers had indicated that his record might have been altered to allow the wearing of the two devices which he had in fact ceased wearing several years previously and which, in fact, were NOT authorized. In the particular case of the Congressional Medal of Honor: " In 2011, updated DoD regulations concerning the Medal of Honor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medal_of_Honor) specified that the "V" device instead of the oak leaf cluster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oak_leaf_cluster) and 5/16 inch star (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5/16_inch_star), would be used to denote additional citations in the rare event of a second Medal of Honor recipient. This was the first authorized use of the "V" device for a Medal of Honor." This may no longer be in effect and there are currently no living double recipients of the MOH.
His mistake is not starting all such stories with "No **** there I wuz..."
What shocks me the most about these cases, be it civs "being" in combat or actual Stolen Valor idiots is that some of them are old guys in their 70-80s.
I've posted Don Shipley's channel on some other thread, but I'll post it here again:

Shipley's an ex-SEAL who goes after people who pretend to be SEALs.
Quite sad to watch all those inviduals getting caught.. yet so enternaining. :)

I had a co-worker whose father was a medic in the Us Army in Europe during WWII. He recived a silver star in Hurtgen Forest. He said one day in the early 90's his father recived a letter from a fellow medic. The gist of the letter was this man was trying to get my buddies father to vouche for him so that he could get a bronze star for the same action.
Well there was one issue the other medic in fact did nothing. So my buddies father called the man and fairly sternly told him seeing that while he sttod in the road with German machine gun fire flying past his legs he clearly recalled looking over and seeing the fellow medic sitting safely in the ditch well out of danger and that this act was not worthy of a bronze star.
@Dowly that Shipley is pretty cool I'd never heard of him before. Some of those guy are total fakes never served period. To not know your BUDS class number for example. I could tell you my flight number and squadron number and even still know the squadron motto and all of that was minor compared to how important a moment that BUDS training has on a SEAL. The one said he went to ATI that's an Army term sailors don't use that term.
Myself I can proudly say that I was a member of an elite force(of drinkers) the grease monkeys see most of the Air Force sits in chairs me being a mechanic I actually stood all day like a Spartan goat. I'll never understand the type who did serve but where not elite forces but claim it. Personally I'm proud of what I actually did and have no reason to blowhard.

remember when Bernard shaw was proven to be hiding under a table wetting his pants in a hotel room during the gulf war in bagdad while he was doing audio reporting claiming to be out on the streets of bagdad reporting on the ongoing battle? that lie was quickly covered up by the media as well.
those media guys are all no different and make up the news as they see fit as well as try to report themselves to be heros and "survivors" of war.
just look at these examples: https://www.google.com/search?q=cnn+fake+war+stories&sourceid=ie7&rls=com.microsoft:en-US:IE-Address&ie=&oe=&gws_rd=ssl

I remember the first time I responded to a Betonov post. There I was, at my keyboard, taking heavy Serbian machine gun fire. I posted a witty response, then Betonov was hit and killed.
Fortunately, he got better and fully recovered.
And that's exactly how it happened.:hmph:

It's actually not his first lie. During Hurricane Katrina he claimed to have seen a body floating by in the flooded French Quarter. Only one problem...
The French Quarter didn't flood during Katrina!

I am shocked, shocked I say, to hear that a TV news reporter would ever embellish a story or report something that did not happen exactly as reported.
