View Full Version : Time Lag Issue

I am into my 3rd Patrol and received a new sub. I've expended all my torps, having sunk some pretty good tonnage. However, I have discovered that I can't get time compression to advance past 256x. This means it's taking forever to cross the Pacific back to Pearl.

Also, when I open the saved patrol, it tells me I am taking damage, even though there are NO enemy ships or planes around.

My game is patched to 1.5 and I am only running GFO 1.1 for mod.

I am running the game on my HP 2000 laptop, with 8GB RAM, running Win 8.1. I've made sure the game is LAA and I running in XP Compatibility mode.

The game is lagging badly. What can I do wrong?

Hi Jeff

Game Fixes Only Mod v1.1

This is an essential mod that is required with Webster's GFO

Two things you can try first.

1. Try running the game straight without using the Compatability Mode.

I run SH4 on Win 8.1 without any special settings. Of course my computer is a desktop.

2. Try lowering your graphis settings to say a midpoint if you have everything maxed out.

Just for curiousity sake, what kind of graphics are you running on your laptop?

I get the same thing where they yell out that we're taking damage whenever I reload a save in which my boat was already damaged; I think that's just a function of loading, and doesn't indicate new damage

You're right. Some say it's a bug, some say it's a feature. No one really knows why it's coded to do that.

When I run the game without Compatibility Mode, it crashed repeatedly. So, I run in compatibility mode. The Graphics card on my laptop is an AMD Radeon DH 6310 card. I already have the graphics about midpoint.

It seems to me that it's running out of memory, but that shouldn't be the case.

i run it on 8.1 laptop no problems are you just using GFO 1.1 for mod or are you using it plus Webster's GFO if not that could be the reason it crashing your card is better than mine you even got more ram than me

One other thought, if you have SH4 installed in the default location (c:/Program Files (x86), try reinstalling just on your C drive. Sometimes there can be problems running the game from the default location.

When you say that you have the game patched to v1.5, you have the UBM, correct?

OK, that's all the generalities I've got. You say you think you're running out of memory. Since laptops usually have shared memory, do you have any outher programs on your laptop that use a great deal of memory? If so, try disabling the programs or programs while you try to play SH4. See what happens.

Also, have you got the latest graphic drivers installed on your laptop?

I have this same problem (lagging over 256x time) ever since I started running GFO. It has never happened to me running the stock version, either the local version that I downloaded from Amazon, or the Steam version. I have both. I have a Quad Core Lenovo laptop that I run it on. Much faster than computers would have been when the game came out.

It doesn't happen all of the time. It has happened 3 times. But once it does forget it. You have to abandon the mission. Saving and reloading will not make it go away. Even if you hard reboot.

But you can start a new mission, load a different saved file, ...whatever...and it will be fine...until the next time!

It is like it gets into some funk that it cannot get out of.

By the way there is NO lag at less than 256x.

It is a long way to Pearl from anywhere at less than 256x.
