I bought it on Friday. Finally a survival game without supernatural elements! It definitely has potential and I especially like the Pacific setting.
However I would advise to wait at least till the next update before considering buying it. Currently the game is lacking a bit of content and I'm also encountering the disappearing raft bug, which is pretty critical.

I haven't bought it yet, but I have seen videos on it. It looks really cool, I probably will get it at some point.
I will say that it really reminds me of castaway, from what I've seen.

Funny I was looking at this last night, it looks good :yep:
Bought it during the weekend. It's pretty good. :yep:
Alright, the review of it as the "Tom Hanks Simulator" definitely increased my interest in it :haha:

It is quite fun, Jim. All be it slow type game play but time is all you have on a deserted island.

For being out out the box unfinished it is quite good graphically. And yes, don't eat, drink or look after your health you die.

Yes it is lacking content, however, for what it has now I would suspect the forthcoming content to be creative. I too have the magically disappearing life raft bug as well. But, build a raft with wood!

You do get WILSON! It is very much like Castaway.

For $15.00 I think it was worth. Might get a bit repetitive. Then again, most games are repetitive.

Yes sir. Much like the movie. The first time I played, day 2, I had Wilson the volley ball.
Changes needed IMO:
-too many sharks. Reduce the number. Dump the music when a shark appears
-repair raft bug
-provide a free roam camera
-show shadow of character. Currently the shadow only shows what the character is carrying.

Nice thoughts Chris. The price is certainly right and as you mention more content should be coming. As well most likely the bugs should be addressed, especially the spawning :yep:

The first hotfix will be available soon: https://twitter.com/BEAMTeamGames/status/560063206521970688 :yep:
As it seems this will address the raft bug and the "land sharks".

What is funny to me was the fact of me getting bored sitting on a island(not bored playing the game mind you). I have exhausted the islands raw materials. Nothing but crabs walking the beach. Have not made a spear for fishing. No materials to do so. Busy eating potato plants. I have no wood to make a fire and cook the crab. Eating the crab raw makes me barf. There is a vessel beached just off shore. I can't get into the darn thing to investigate. I'm thinking to myself, I have ALL the time in the world because...well...I'm simply stranded on a island. There of course are other islands to "swim" too but you know what? I can do that tomorrow...no rush. Nothing timed here. I sit at the edge of the beach hoping to see smoke on the horizon. Only thing is...I'm not in a submarine. :haha: It might be my rescue if there is smoke on the horizon.

Great! I did have land sharks last time I played. The darn dorsal fin was cruising the sand on the beach. :o
I see good possibilities with this game. It is similar to SIMS in some respects.

Great. The long dark has wolves. This one has sharks.
What I really want to see is larger islands to explore. Add in some waterfalls, lagoons, caves and all that good stuff. :yep:

I agree. The islands are small. I guess providing a punch of islands to paddle your way to was the developers one best answer. Maybe a larger island will be added later.
Last night exploring a wreckage I found a machete, swim fins and small air tank. :yeah:

The hotfix is pretty great, much more included than expected! I haven't played too much yet, but no issues so far. I managed to get out of a semi-sunken boat's hatch with no problems, so hope the hatch-deathtrap issue is gone.
Looking forward to find the motor parts, then I don't have to paddle anymore like a pleb. :arrgh!:

Yes, my raft did not disappear with the hot fix. Speaking of motor parts I did find something that appears to be a motor of sorts. I did not have carrying capacity with what I already was toting around and have to return to the sunken vessel.
I did experience the deathtrap hatch issue. Strange part of the problem was a ladder laying on it's side by the hatch. I could not use the ladder! I had to restart a new game.
John Walker from Rock, Paper, Shotgun (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2015/01/29/lets-try-to-play-stranded-deep/) plays some Stranded Deep:

Many updates. Plenty of life in the oceans surrounding the islands. Too many shark IMO. Not the high action type game but fun to play if you just want to get away from fully auto guns, pimps and stealing cars. :har:

I gotta say, I've never had much interest in this specific sub genre of game. The problem I have with them is that they are all so shallow as far as actual game play. Lack of content is often i think the biggest problem. There usually isn't a whole lot that can be built, you often can't really combine the structures too well, and most of what you can build isn't all that useful anyhow. As far as exploration, I find they also suffer as well due to either smaller maps, and/or lack of variety. Also most of them I don't think are very challenging, but more of a time sink. There is a reason after all why this sort of game is PewDiePie bait (like his flying shark routine with this game), they are not overly challenging.
I guess the biggest problem I have, is that I feel so limited as to what I can do in these kind of games. After playing for a few hours, I often feel like I've done most of the game content and don't have much motivation to continue. I've got everything I need to survive indefinitely, or until the world resources run out. That and the development period for most of these games seems to never end, with incredibly slow progress. I think its a shame too, as I have an interest in survival type games.
Also, why do so many of these games start with a lame plane crash scene? :o

One of my favorite Youtubers plays this game. Since I can't run it, I figured I'd watch him play it.
It's entertaining for sure...
SpeirsTheAmazingHD (https://www.youtube.com/user/SpeirsTheAmazingHD) kinda does like a let's play type of thing with it.

Yes, I agree it is limited in content. However, for me, the game is similar to the Sims. Build your own little world. With that in mind, perhaps adding content continually would keep the interest going. The Sims is very successful. I do not see Stranded meeting are exceeding what The Sims have accomplished but I think with creative content being added the game should do well.
Dowly pointed out a few posts back that a huge island with waterfalls and other assorted foliage is much needed. Underwater and land caves to explore. More derelict ship/boats to explore. But at the same time realize that the game will attempt to create the sense of loneliness. After all, you are on a deserted island.
Hey, as a teaser...have a ship far off in the distance for you as the character attempt to get attention for a rescue only to have it steam off. That would suck. :haha:
I was completely addicted to this and most of my addiction came from the high hopes I had that once I found all of the outboard motor parts I'd have a super time island hopping. I finally found all of the parts to build the outboard motor and promptly found out that it takes half a tank of gas to get from island to island. :nope: You'd get better mileage out of a 426 Hemi Barracuda.
Haven't played it since, since I'm bored of rowing and rowing. Figure I'll get back into it once it's been updated some more and there's new stuff to check out...
