Well, there I am reading this:

and I find a mention of HMS Graph (ex U570). How fascinating, I never realised that we'd had a U-Boat in actual use in the RN. Also, that parts of it are still just offshore of Islay.

I believe the spanish navy operated a Nazi U-boat well into the 1960s?
EDIT:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_submarine_U-573#Spanish_service there she is... U-573, operated by the spanish navy until 1970.

You're still new. Many of us have posted many references to those pages. They have been the source for the deciding of many arguments here.
Still, we all get to discover it sometime, and your posting it now means that many more new members will find out the wonders of sources like that. :sunny:

U 995, the last surviving Typ 7, was used by Norway until 1965.

You can taste her in the Laphroaig :o
On a serious note, Edward Young who served in the Royal Navy's submarine service in WW2, mentions in his book; "One Of Our Submarines", that U-570 on her maiden voyage was captured by a Hudson bomber.
He states that "It was also the first, and only, instance of a U-boat captured by an aircraft". Quoted verbatim page 63.
Edward Young served under HMS Graph's first Commanding Officer George Colvin in a later submarine HMS Sealion.
