HoloLenses? Xbox-Pc cross platform? Project spartan? We may see a good OS from MS this year:hmmm:

I'm not so sure, they have had plenty of opportunities in the past and failed to deliver.

A bit more competition from a serious player (add name of choice here) would be nice and may even push them to strive harder than they have in the past.

Free upgrades to W10 for users of W7 and W8 - they really must be desperate after W8.

The new OS comes not before Q3, and then the upgrade option should be there for one year. That means there is still time to wait for feedback. I will not jump onto the W10 train on the day in gets released.

Possibly the last classical OS MS does deliver. From now on they maybe will just eternally upgrade W10.

That they so openly press for users using cloud data storage, pisses me big time. The most unsafe option for data storage that is, and when youngster are used to it from childrhood on, the chance is slim they will decide again st it when they are grown up and have a job. That way a better awareness for privacy and data safety once again gets systematically and intentionally eroded.

Possible that in three years or so I will physically disconnect my game platform from the internet, since I do not buy much new games anymore anyway, and get a smaller device for online surfing exclusively. Installing Steam games once and very early, and then having it offline as well. It may pay off that I never was attracted that much by online gaming.

Did Microsoft promise it will be buggy as hell and take six months to a year to fix. :hmmm:

But like before plenty of fools will rush out and buy it on day one. :03:

Man MS is continually all over the place. It seems almost every other year they are coming out or planning another OS.

It is too bad they would not adapt a multi-OS type of system. Where you could purchase an OS based on your personal preference versus here is the new one and eventually you will have to get it as we will no longer support older versions :/\\!!

I like the look of the HoloLens, that looks intriguing, but I think it will be best implemented with something like Dexmo (http://www.gizmag.com/dexta-robotics-dexmo-hand-exoskeleton/34410/) which will enable you to feel the objects in the virtual world as well as interact with them. :yep:

The german summar I read of their conference said the OS will be a free upgrade for W7 and W8 users, and that it is just one OS for several different platforms. It also said they promise full updating service for the full lifespan of devices it is being used on. No need to come up with a new OS then, thats why I see this as another hint for rumours from earlier last year that W10 indeed will be the last separately distributed OS they release. Said rumours also indicted that from then on their OS will also be externalised to the cloud. You then will even be unable to run your device without being connected to the cloud, for the OS is no longer on your device.

No-go for me. I hope its another of those famous MS ideas that explodes them right into their faces.

That W-10 will be a subscription based OS....?

That right there is the biggest reason I hate "the cloud". Want to buy Adobe Illustrator? You can't, but you can subscribe to use it. I'm still running graphics software I bought twenty years ago but those days are now gone.

I doubt it will explode in their faces for the simple reason every other windows release is decent; 98 XP, win7. and vise versa every other one is garbage; millenium, visa, win8.

I was really trying to stay away from 8, but don't mind it as much now. Vista was the worst for me. It was on my wife's laptop, I eventually put XP on it.

I've had Win 10 or a few months now on a dual boot.
I'm growing to like it a lot.

I hope Windows 10 is a success, I know there are a lot of people working hard on it. I never tried Win 8, but from the look of it, with those ghastly big ass tiles...it seemed really funky. You know, ICONS, Start Menu, Task Bar; they're pretty hard to beat.

I'm definitely ready to upgrade to a new laptop. My current one is almost 7 years old. As soon as it is available with Win 10, as long as Win 10 is functional, I'm pulling the trigger.

Yeah, with Windows 8 you can avoid these for the most part. I spend pretty much all of my time on the Desktop :)

The big ass tiles are still going to be there with 10, just a little more user friendly.

I still do a lot of 'Puter stuff. Win 8 and 8.1 just never hit a mark with me.
Win 10 Technical Preview has been flawless even understanding somethings may not be compatible as yet.
The Win 8.1 Video Drivers are Da' Bomb on my Win 10 install!

I think it may be the OS skip curse thing myself.
(Rumors of needing the Cloud are WAY over blown!)

I have my new computer set to always start at the desktop.

With the app "Start Menu 8" I get a regular Start Menu, and have to click a switch to get to the "Metro" screen, as they call it. I can't speak for 8, but with 8.1 you can have as many or as few "tiles" as you like, and you can select the size of each one.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/SailorSteve/Metro_zps0qfwvrvp.jpg (http://s14.photobucket.com/user/SailorSteve/media/Metro_zps0qfwvrvp.jpg.html)

The little arrow at the lower left corner takes you to the "Apps" screen, where you can select anything you want to run.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/SailorSteve/Metro%202_zpsurxdovxq.jpg (http://s14.photobucket.com/user/SailorSteve/media/Metro%202_zpsurxdovxq.jpg.html)

What you see there is about 1/3 of the total available screen, because it scrolls to the left and right.

I'm starting to really like it now. :sunny:

That's a Formidable class pre-dreadnought, isn't it? :hmmm:

I'll stab a guess at the Duncan-class battleship, possibly HMS Albemarle.

Yes on the class, but the ship is Duncan herself. I change the background every day.
