I would hate being the guy responsible for getting the chemistry right for that old film.

Makes me think of buddy from school his grandfather was a navigator on B-24s and 29s and later radar navigator on B-52s. We found some old film he had shot from his days flying in the B-24 in North Africa.
We found several pictures of the crew standing next to this very frail but confident looking rooster standing on a ladder. He said that the rooster was their mascot. This rooster was very humorous looking at least he felt good about himself.

Perhaps. I wish I had one of the photos I mean this rooster in his scruffy state yet standing with such pride it really made us laugh.

Rodinal 1:100 one hour stand! :D
Many people develop old or some times very old film with good/decent results. 2 or 3 developers that are around are great for the job,but yes, bad luck or s....t can happen.
There is probably a tremendous volume of undeveloped film of this nature. Much is likely lost forever. I know in our family, a lot of pictures taken are just forgotten. Nice that some of this is recovered.
