Trying to run a 5.25 floppy disc in a 3.5 floppy drive also does not compute, Oberon. ;)

You're right being a politician he could feel as though he is under complusion to say such things and is playing 'al-Taqiyya 'card for the sake of getting re-elected. :D
Anyone who, after accepting faith in Allah, utters unbelief, except under compulsion, his heart remaining firm in Faith - but such as open their breast to unbelief, on them is Wrath from Allah, and theirs will be a dreadful Penalty." -Surah 16:106
We just keep going and going and going :)

Lets say he tries to run a floppy in a CD drive, then. Or tries to fold and squeeze it so that he can shove it through an USB plug socket.
The problem remains to be the media he uses. Nobody uses floppy discs anymore.
Almost nobody.

I do not believe that it is anyone individuals' responsibility to play God/Allah. Whatever the penalty is for dis-belief I believe that it is the responsibility of that particular deity to lay down the punishment.
As for the mayor? Good for him for standing up to those A-holes!

From a humanistic/reasonable/libertarian point of view, what he did express in words is a matter of course (=Selbstverständlichkeit). The Prussian part in me thinks hat fulfilling just your most essential duty, does not need explicit thankfulness and recognition, because indeed - it is just filling your duty. A matter of course.
Beyond that, he too implies that Islam has nothing to do with Muslim hate and intolerance.
When he starts to call the ideology motivating these deeds and sentiments by its real name - totalitarianism, racism, supremacism and intolerance - then I will start to applaud him.
Right now, all he did was deceiving people - and probably also himself without realising it, I give him that - about the real cause of all this mess - the ideology.
Religious extremism is a cancer in society.
Like all cancers if it is untreatable then it has to be cut out permanently, to prevent a re-growth.
No good the politicians talking about it and watching it grow.
The intelligence services, I use the term lightly, know of those who have gone to train with the IS.
They simply should not be let back in to wherever they left.
Those who want to stay in the west, should practice what the west teaches; political and religious toleration (unheard of in Pakistan).
As the old phrase goes "When in Rome......".
Unfair and Draconian, no not at all, but 100% necessary.
