IT IS IN FACT A MYTH A common myth is that bats always turn left when exiting caves. This is one of those fun "facts" that shows up in trivia books Web sites, but nobody seems to be certain where this batty story got started. Nothing in the literature of chiropterology (the study of bats) seems to verify it.
Instead, it would appear that bats turn in whichever direction provides the most open space. Bats use a sophisticated sonar system that enables them to navigate their way in the dark. This system, known as echolocation, entails emitting high-pitched sounds and listening to the echo to determine the size, shape and location of objects in the vicinity.

Alaska pollock has a milder taste, whiter color and lower oil content.
High-quality, single-frozen whole Alaska pollock fillets may be layered into a block mold
and deep-frozen to produce fish blocks that are used throughout Europe and North America
as the raw material for high-quality breaded and battered fish products.
Lower-quality, double-frozen fillets or minced trim pieces may also be frozen in block forms
and used as raw material for lower-quality, low-cost breaded and battered fish sticks and portions.
Single-frozen Alaska pollock is considered to be the premier raw material for surimi;
the most common use of surimi in the United States is imitation crabmeat (also known as crab stick).

The design of Widex headquarters utilises a combination of old and new technology to provide a truly unique building. These include a geothermal system that uses groundwater as a heat reservoir to store an entire years’ worth of heating and cooling, the first of its kind in Denmark, as well as the use of solar cells and recycling of rainwater. Solar energy from 20,000 silicon-based solar cells on 600m2 of the building's facade http://www.balslev.com/fileadmin/_migrated/pics/project5_01.jpg
But the most visible contribution is the windmill which delivers more power annually than Widex uses. The windmill also means that Widex is a WindMade™ certified company - the first global consumer label for companies that use wind energy.

The Pentagon didn't have to be in the shape it is.
The original location for the Pentagon was along side Arlington Cemetery wedged in between two other streets. That is why the original design was a lopsided pentagon.
When it was decided to move the location of the Pentagon to its current location, it was decided that there was not enough time (nor any particular reason) to re-do the layout. So all they did was even out the sides to make it a neater Pentagon.

No, it is not true that the eyeballs are fully grown at birth. The eyes undergo considerable growth especially during the first two years of life, with a second growth spurt occurring around puberty. The length of the eye of a newborn is about 16.5 mm, while that of a full grown adult is about 24 mm.
According to the Chicago College of Medicine, eyes do continue to grow after birth. A newborn's eyes are about 75 percent the size they are going to be when fully grown well as growing larger. The optic nerve and internal eye structures are not fully formed at birth. Newborns do not respond much to visual stimulation, but they are able to track moving objects with their eyes within two months. In addition, a baby's ability to see clearly keeps increasing with age. At birth, a baby's eyesight is about 20/400, but it develops to 20/20 by 2 years.
The only human body part that does not grow after birth is the ossicular chain, which is composed of three small bones and is located in the middle ear. These bones are also the smallest lightest bones in the human body. Each bone is smaller than a grain of rice.

The butterflies you get in your stomach when you see someone you like is actually a stress response caused by adrenaline.
What is that feeling when you meet someone you owe money to? :o Adrenaline, right?
Our eyes are always the same size from birth, but our nose and ears never stop growing.
We have all seen the babies with big eyes and I was led to believe that the reason is due to that the eye's are already 90% of the size that they are going to be and that of course leads me to believe that human eye's grow very little from birth to adult hood.
However our resident researcher has decided that we are wrong ... do we need a second opinion? :D

The very first scanning of a UPC code was on a pack of Wrigley’s chewing gum. In the summer of 1974 a UPC code was scanned for the first time at a grocery market in Ohio. At Marsh supermarket, a 10-pack of Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit gum slid down the conveyer belt to mark the first ever grocery item to be scanned.

Although Bananas are only grown sparingly in the Continental United States, Washington State has a Banana Museum.

YEAH THAT! Having just installed a new InsinkErator InSinkErator’s disposal (http://www.amazon.com/InSinkErator-Badger-Food-Waste-Disposer/dp/B00004U9JO/mypull-20) instruction manual specifically states, “Don’t grind large amounts of egg shells or fibrous materials like corn husks, artichokes, etc, to avoid possible drain blockage....my friend whose dad is a plumber says people who do that keep him in busine$$. It can result in you needing to dig up the yard to get to the pipes, because the shells get compacted with fat and create huge blockages.” Fortunately, what used to go down the disposal, now goes in a small counter-top plastic compost container; thence to for the larger yard-waste can.

The movie "Airplane!, while containing scenes similar to ones in the various Airport movies, is actually a more direct parody of the movie "Zero Hour!"
Notice the use of the exclamation point in both titles. Since the studio that made Airplane! held the rights to Zero Hour!, ZAZ was able to copy characters and a lot of the dialogue directly into their own movie.
The movie Zero Hour! was novelized in the US as "Runway Zero Eight".

During portions of WWII, the British government forbid radios playing "Deep in the Heart of Texas".
Why?
The song was an huge (yuge?) hit in Britain, especially the clapping portion. The Brits really got into it. The clapping became so popular that there were worries that war factory workers could make mistakes or get injured if they clapped while hearing that song on the radio.
So for a period of just over a year, that song was not allowed to be played over the radio.
