Looks to be more storm related.....
Bad news either way, and another blight on Malay based operations.

Rgr that.
It doesn't look good.
Definitely not been a good year for Asian airlines. Hopefully this one will be found and there will be survivors.
Reports of bad weather in the area, the A320 has had its share of problems, but most of them have been either pilot error (due to unfamiliarity with the computer systems on board) or landing issues due to poor adhesion. This'll be the first time one has gone down mid-flight.

Let's have a bit less of the silly comments please, there's 162 people on this flight, of multiple nationalities. :nope:

you didn't refrain yourself from silly comments in the thread in which hundreds if not thousands were involved.
besides, I'll quote (for the last time) Sailor Steve here: don't tell others what they can or cannot do.

I wasn't telling, I was asking. There is a difference. If you want to drag a petty squabble from one thread to another, that's your choice.

Come on everybody, two or more wrongs don't make a right, lets maintain some level of quality understanding here.

Bloody hell not again. Has any year ever been this bad for airline operations before?

Oh, it's been much worse:
http://m.theepochtimes.com/n3/1164919-2014-the-worst-year-for-air-crashes-in-a-while/
1972 is usually considered the deadliest year.
While 2014 is unusually bad, the 1970s and 1980s were substantially more dangerous for air travel, especially when you take into account that there are far more airplanes in the air today than back then.

Damn. Surprised that 72 was the worst. I thought for sure 77 would be the worst since Tenerife happened that year.

Be interesting to see the AirBus-vs-Boeing accident stats for the last few years..?

There's not really a difference, and I'll never understand the "scarebus" myth, because statistics either don't bear this out (or even favour Airbus slightly).
Some stats by type:

That was my initial assessment as well :yep:
Well, it seems they've found it

Unfortunately, it seems like it's in pieces in the ocean and nobody has survived :(

Damn...it was pretty unlikely anyone would have survived, but there's always a small sliver of hope. Still, if this wreckage is the AsiaAir flight, then at least they have found it and hopefully the black box will be found and some closure brought to this, unlike the Malaysian flight.
Well, it seems like there are multiple bodies that have been found now, and none have had life jackets or oxygen masks on them, so that's certainly not a good sign :nope:
I certainly do hope that some closure to all this is brought quickly, for the sake of the families.

Probably more or less disintegrated on impact.
Now one AirAsia plane overshot the runway in Kalibo.
No one hurt fortunately.

Probably more or less disintegrated on impact. Most likely. Hopefully not as badly as Swissair Flight 111. It will be interesting to know if aircraft was in one piece when it hit water.

Virgin had a bit of a hiccup yesterday, one of its 747s had a partial gear failure, the news treated it like it was coming in on fire though apparently. :/\\!! :nope:

I thought that was a brilliant landing, not a scrape on the starboard engines. But my 777 pilot mate says the pilot will get a ribbing from all pilots who ever meet him for such a bounce.
RIP to all passengers and crew on the Air Asia flight.

I noticed the bounce too, but all things considered it went a lot better than it could have, heck one of the passengers said that it was smoother than a lot of regular landings he's been on. :haha:
