A hacker group claims to have brought down XBox and PS online services. And although i usually am more differentiated about idealistic hackers trying to show people how vulnerable they have made themselves when relying so completely on technology and the WWW, these dirtbags now I would love to beat up personally and pretty badly with my own hands. Because here they hit not any adult users who can cope with the situation, but they spell disaster on many little kids who have lived towards christmas in the expectation of then being able to finally, after all that long wait, to play with their friends over the holidays, like they have seen it being done with other kids they knew form school. For a child, the perception of time is different than for us adults, and disappointments like this is felt far more intensely, then it is felt by a 20 or 30 year old. I also remember when I was a boy, and got my first chess computer - and my parents had bad luck and bought a malfunctioning piece, which they could not have known. That evening was one of the most disappointing evenings in my life, and those days I had to wait until the shops were open again were the longest of my life. Also, I am lucky to have had wonderful and really good memories of christmas days with my family when I was young. Seeing this being spoiled for kids just for malicious and sadistic motives I have zero understanding and no tolerance for.
I would love to be given some minutes with those doing this in a locked room, all alone, unobserved. They would regret what they did. Promised.

Ain't nobody ever heard of single-player games?
World isn't over.
MP-Only games or MP-focused games are my mortal enemy.

I'm with Sky on this one.
If they want to do something about our over reliance on technology, let them organize outdoor camping and trekking. Not ruining children Christmases.
I can't stand hackers. What a dishonorable way to fight.

I am not talking about late teens or adults, Red, but little children. For them the world still ticks differently. Christmas days and a new toy being broken - that is almost like world over for them.

Some hackers are like that, as I indicated, but this Lizard Squad seems to be püure scum indeed: they blackmailed the FB crowd for more likes "else...", and only wanted to boast with their stunt. That is as low a motive as "low" can mean.
Time for a real thorough spanking.

First world problems :shifty:
There are kids (and adults) who did not get anything to eat on Christmas day. There are people sleeping in the streets or worse. All over the world, there are people dying and losing someone close to them on Christmas.
If the statistics play out, about 150 people committed suicide on Christmas day and that is only the US numbers.
But a video game not being able to be played, qualified as the "worst Christmas ever"? Really?
I think there is a need for a just little perspective here.

We can't expect that kind of perspective from kids under 11.
We shouldn't really force it on them. Life is going to get ugly soon enough for them, even those in the first world.
Betonov

Is there any reason why we can't expect it?
Kids should know about reality and life long before they are 11.
They'll live to see a 111, let's give them some playtime first.
Looks like Lizard Squad has made a mistake by saying Anonymous has been working with the FBI to catch those responsible for shutting down the 2 sites. Anonymous wants everyone to know this is nonsense! Why would they work with the FBI, who they hate?
So Anonymous is going after the Lizard Squad, they have 2 videos to watch here-
http://anonhq.com/anonymous-declares-war-lizard-squad/
Apparently, they are now going after Tor.

Oh please, no overdose of vitriolic moraline here.
And as I already said to Red: this is about little children not knowing it any better, and ticking by a little children's mind's tact, not an adult's. What should they care about what adults have messed up in the world beyond their view.

The issue is not that some kids can not play their video games this Christmas..
the issue is: That in spite of kids (and adults) who did not get anything to eat on Christmas, and people sleeping in the streets or worse, and people dying all over the world and people losing loved ones, in spite of all of this misery and depressing scheiss.... some a**wads took the time to deliberately bugger up someone else's Christmas!
I'm absolutely positive that the kids will get over this.. but what about the wads that did the damage in the first place?.. doesn't this say something really dark and depressing about them?.. I don't want to share the planet with beings like that.

Lets give them some values first.
And we can do that by being good parents and a good society.
By giving them examples, taking time and teach them things, sit with them with movies and tell them what's wrong and right, play games with them and teach them values trough play. And then go outside with them. Take them camping or a least long walks. Make playing boardgames fun for them so they'll socialize more easily when they reach their teens. Teach them modesty 364 days in a year and give them a special treat that one day, a reward for a years worth growing up to be better persons than their spoiled peers.
Not rub their faces in about how most of this planet suffers. Just strap them to a chair ala Clockwork orange and break them into a psychological mess.
But Tribes, I do understand your point. Modern children are overindulgent and spoiled brats. And that's not because they have no perspective about the 150 Christmas suiciders and the hungry Africans. It's because it was easier for their parents to just buy them crap all year round than actually making an effort in raising them. If their PS4 or X-box goes down on Christmas and they turn into a teary puddle, I'll even laugh about it. Schadenfreude mein Freund.
Aber, the Maggot... excuse me, Lizzard squad made no distinction and children, that got their one special gift in this year, those children are not spoiled brats and those children were really hurt.

Perhaps these..."a**wads" ....were over indulged as kids and sheltered from reality as kids and have grown up with a me me me mentality which enables their present habit of selfish behaviour?
Perhaps we should blame their parents for raising such brats.
Why do you force me to agree and disagree with you in a same thread :stare:

Oh please spare me the let's not wreck our special creations bull crap! The sooner they learn life without setbacks is a special view the better. Really! Why do kids need counseling every time something awful happens now? Is it maybe because they are overprotected and can't deal with any adversity? Too freaking bad and learn something of actual value for once. I'm sorry if this is a cruel viewpoint, but life in general is cruel for the vast majority and the sooner one learns that the better. Harumph!:hmm2:

Maybe this would teach those kids the superior experience of PC gaming.
Would be beneficial both to those kids and to the video game industry.

Perhaps you just didn't grasp the first bit:03:
I did (I think). The Lizzard squad is a basement assembly of spoilt un-socilized adult brats that wouldn't make it until Tuesday if an EMP hits. Those kind that throw a tantrum if their iPad is the wrong color.
But I'm was talking about those that are happy to even get something this year and they were denied the fun of finally having the same level of luxury than their spoiled peers. Maybe father got a bonus or a mother a second job etc. You know what I mean. You're not stupid, just stubborn :O:
Give honest answers to what they encounter, that's all that is required.
Kids are inquisitive and ask the most uncomfortable questions.
They deserve an honest answer no matter the age.
But there are less brutal ways to prepare them for life. Not nightmare inducing ways. And so what if our children are having it easy when they're really young. It's called progress. I have no intent of giving my kids the ''old country'' treatment my grandparents always talked about. But I will teach them how to adapt if we're forced back to that way of life, wither war or disaster.

Tribes, I am not going to go nitpicking every word and all the 167 different meanings one can pull out one thing I wrote. Like I already said, you know what I mean, but you're too stubborn to say it :O: I'd sooner walk to Ireland and throw a snowball at you.
Just answer me this, was the action of the lizzard squad illegal ??
Aaand they're at it again. I wouldn't mind, but it is also affecting EA's servers, so no Battlefield 4 for me. :shifty:

Yes it is illegal. It's called Cybercrime and not much different from physically breaking and entering a building. I'm sure the FBI would like to have a chat with the person/s responsible.
