View Full Version : Why is SH5 only rated 2 stars!?

I was going to buy SH5 today from amazon. But then I saw it was only rated 2 stars and the reviews were horrible. Can someone tell me why or know of another site I can buy it off? Does subsim sell those games? -Titanicgeek on stand by!
The amazon version is just fine - it's the state of the game on release that got the bad reviews, mostly justified IMO. Two stars for a game that was broken on release and needs mods to make it really work is only fair!
However if you're looking to get a copy of SH5 and helping Subsim, doing it via the Subsim store link is what you should do: http://www.amazon.com/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=ur2&tag=cyberknight
There are no different versions of SH5 otherwise!

It is still terribad in my opinion, even highly modified.
Go for SH3 or 4... ignore 5.
A 1.WO with an eye patch is just too much. :nope:

I'm unable to play sh5 simply owing to the fact that it's internet play only. That stinks enough in my view...

That is no longer the case, nor has it been as such for quite some time.

I thank you for that: I posted a question relating to this in the Games forum two or three weeks back, asking whether anyone had created a mod to make it useable for me, but got no replies. Thing is, I will need to have it on disc: is this an option or is it download only?

I only have the disc and at time of release you had to be online, then that was for registration only purposes but now that requirement may have been dropped. I'm not 100% sure as I don't play it now for numerous personal reasons.
If I were you I'd pose the question in the relevant SH5 section of the forum or PM someone such as Pisces, THEBERBSTER or sober for a definitive answer.

Thanks, I've just found my post: 15th Sept at 02:53pm in the SH5 forum. No-one replied so I assumed I was out of luck.

I wanted to install SH5, but after trying out UBI and this Uplay thing, it seems they do not remember my account. And since the serial number is connected to this account, i cannot run it.
Also, when i try a new account, it says the serial number is already taken. Of course it is taken, by me. Only that the old account does not exist anymore, at UBI's side.
Also, you do not even get to an SH5 forum anymore, because trying to reach UBI.com in Germany a car sim page opens, and wherever you try to navigate you end up at a UBI car game main page. Trying to reach the customer support from there generates that:
"Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at ASP.index_aspx.GetTargetURLFromRedirectionTool(Str ing url, String profileID) in d:\Inetpub\Root\customer_support_site_v2\index.asp x:line 72 at ASP.index_aspx.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) in d:\Inetpub\Root\customer_support_site_v2\index.asp x:line 21"
:haha: Good show UBI, you are now ranking #2 for the most crappy websites worldwide (1. being the german Telecom homepage: all deception, you get no info and you cannot reach anyone, by email or by whatever)
This is the new service, they offer us. What a joy.
I am still trying, perhaps i get it to work somehow, but this whole registring thing from UBI stinks to the heavens. Oh those glorious DRM and online requesting sims  :shifty:

I've had this exact same problem with "Steam". Now if I see the "Steam" or "Valve" logo on any software I put it straight back.

I always avoided Steam, and the older it gets, the more people are frustrated.
Can't believe i just spent three hours to install and update a sim i could not play afterwards.
They say there is an Amazon download link here, for 10 bucks ?
Where ?

Top right of this page, you'll see 'Quick Links'. The second link is 'Amazon.com Subsim Store'. Within that page are also options for UK, Canadian and German Amazon. If you use those links Onkel Neal will get a small slice of the price, at no extra cost to you. :sunny:

This is why I always buy the disc. I don't have to wait several hours for download. I only have to wait...several days for delivery. :dead:

So can I now buy SH5 on a disc (again) and play it this time? I don't mind having to activate it, but I'm not establishing any kind of "account" which I have to log onto each time, or download data from...

Well i did buy the disc, i have it here.
With a code.
You cannot use the code, but with an online account.
The code is tied to one, and only one account.
This account does not exist anymore, deleted by UBI it seems when this whole Uplay thing crashed some time ago.
So i cannot make up the same account ("taken")
And i cannot use the key, because it is tied to ... ah forget it.
This all is not the guilt of the programmers of this game, but only and alone UBI's Digital Rights Mamagement and [insert expletive here] "Uplay". I hate this. I HATE this.
I wonder what happens if the download is finished. Will there be a key code, with the download ? Will i need another Ubi Uplay account ? I am sure there will be no manual either.

This all drove me to distraction too. I once loaded and registered a number of games to a Steam account, then when I tried to log on a second time I was told that because I was using a "different computer" from the one used to set up the account (I wasn't) and in a "different location" (Milton Keynes as I recall... I've never been near the place) I'd have to go through some complex anti-hacking security process to get it back. I deleted Steam and binned the games. Very expensive, but I knew that if I didn't chuck them I'd forever be going back to try and retrieve the situation... in vain.
I couldn't even donate the games to a charity shop because, as my mate Catfish has pointed out, they've been registered to an account which is now deleted or paralyzed. I want none of it... :/\\!! :nope::nope::nope:

Don't bother with SH5. I have it and the only thing I like is the environment and getting to walk through the sub. I find everything else incomprehensible to the point of never using it, or wanting to learn to use it, or mod it, or anything. Even Shells of Fury is more fun no save game and all. :har:

That's helpful, Buddy: I sometimes have wondered what I'm missing. To tell you the truth, I also enjoy SH3 more than SH4, despite the latter being head and shoulders above in terms of environment.

There is no 'SH3 Gold'. There's GWX3 Gold, which is the same as GWX3. There is SH4 Gold, which is SH4 with the U-Boats add-on added on.

If you get the correct version (dated 2008 or newer) it will be fully patched, Starforce-free and good to go. :sunny:

Sounds like my ongoing problem with Steam.
Can't install a game because it is "already" installed
Can't uninstall the same game because it is not installed
Can't use the code on another account because it is linked with my original account.
Can't play the game because it is not installed. :stare:
All Steam "customer" "service" tells me is that this problem can't happen.
No one at Steam seems concerned that I can't play the frickin game that I brought and have the disks and the authorization code.
If your protection system prevents paying customers from being able to use your product, you is doin it wrong!!
