Hello everybody! I would like to introduce myself as a new member,so this is my first post.

I require members help please regarding an old PC game of yesteryear.I used to have the game many moons ago which was installed on an old windows 98 desktop machine.Unfortunately I have lost the disc and am unable to recall the title.
All I can remember is it was set around the Spanish Armada times. I think you picked a nation England,Spain and I think France.I am not sure if the country names where slightly changed? You had a top down map of Britain,France and Europe and you could also sail to the Americas. You traded goods and went into port to repair your ship.I think you could also conquer land and if you were caught by another nation a battle in the open seas would ensue. You could also get attacked by pirates and Island tribes which graphically looked like little canoes coming at you.
When you began the game the intro scene was two ships battling each other and it showed some members of your crew loading and firing the guns under deck. Eventually they got fire balled and the ship was destroyed. If I remember the masts collapsed and the opening credits ended?

Any help in trying to find out this game title would be great as it as bugged me for many years.Hopefully one day I will find the disc but unfortunately it as disappeared off the face of the earth!!

Thanks- Capen

Aktungbby I think I have the age of sail stuff somewhere and I am positive it is not one of those.
Somewhere in my past there is an answer to my mystery.I have even googled it to try find a title name that will spark my memory. But no joy!

Thanks.

You'll probably find it here:

Thaks Jimbuna!

Will take a look.

Edit: Had a quick browse but still not reminding me of anything.
Also had another good look at my old pc stuff.Behind and inside cupboards and boxes(dusty) but still no joy.
Maybe one day I'll remember.

Thanks again-Capen

I usually go to the Home of the Underdogs site to search for info about an old game. As it usually has some screenshot that could make a bell ring. Or is it ... ring a bell?

I'm not sure if this is considered a no-go area in regards to Subsim's no piracy policy. As in the past you could download games from it. Now it seems to just revert to Google.

Abandonware is a no go, yes.

Well from the looks of it the site seems to have gone legit now. A mere 'Old Game museum'.

Really Frustrating Pisces. Not been able to trace the game.
Just wish I could remember the title, then I'd have more of a chance!
I used to love the game back in the day.I know it's not age of sail and I am certain it was a windows 95/98 game in the day.
So after searching the other day I found a copy I had put away and never used of East India Company.Seems pretty similiar with modernish graphics.

Maybe if you describe the gameplay specifics and graphics a bit we might get closer. 3d rendering? 2d sprite action? Bright colors or moody/realistic. Game intros are quite volatile in my memory, as they barely were gameplay footage in those days. Which is wat mattered to me. 9 out of 10 it was cgi movies so nothing but eyecandy.

Ok let me try and summon up the memory gods.
After starting the game the intro came up which was quite movie based and glossy for it's time.It showed a galleon mid ocean and the camera panned in I think to the birds nest where a sailor was watching for the enemy. All of a sudden the enemy was seen and the next clip a battle ensued with the movie focused on the aforementioned galleons gun crew loading cannons on the gun deck.Eventually they were blasted by the enemies cannon balls and the ship destroyed in fire.I am not sure if the mast collapsed and the intro ended.
Into the game it was a 2D top down view of the ships and the map.It showed a map of Europe and when you went sailing I remember you could go to the Caribbean and the Americas. At the start you picked a country which I think were England,Spain and I think France. Not sure if the country names were slightly changed but that was the general idea.I obviously picked England as I am from there and if I remember in the map corner was a type radar which showed your ship and the enemy by colored dots.Sure that Spain was red dots and France or England green and blue?
You started in small galleons and had to go to UN-occupied territories usually in the Caribbean to trade your on board goods such as tobacco, wine and food etc.I think you could re supply the commodities(including planks wood) where you sold goods and sail on to other Islands before returning home.At ports you could also repair your ships hull, sails and acquire I think more crew.Eventually you could move up to better and bigger ships. This was a sure way to make your nation more powerful and subsequently conquer more Islands, which again I think you could take over.
Whilst you sailed though you were in danger of coming across other nations like Spain/France that would or could result in a battle and incur casualties and damage.Or even death.I remember too that small Islanders in little canoes would attack you which I'm not sure were pirates or you had other pirate groups coming at you too.Not sure if it was one to one ship battles or groups and whether you could control big fleets?
When you sailed around you could discover new coastal Islands. Some of these were taken over by the other nations so you had to attack there coastal defenses and I think, there ships in the harbor? I remember the coastal defenses been little castle type structures with firing guns.
Anything else, Mm can't quite remember.Oh when you fired your guns you clicked a icon on each side of the ship and had to wait for reload.I remember the cannon balls falling short and creating splashes in the ocean.
I know it's not age of sail 2 because I have played that in the last five years or so.Not sure about age of sail 1, but I'm sure it's not that?

That's it and thanks all especially Pisces for reading

I said it was a windows 95-98 game so I went a different way and double checked earlier games in dos through google but still the memory loss.
Really frustrating.I so wish I could put my hands on the disc.Probably when I'm older and full of arthritis in my hands lol!
