View Full Version : Do you have Special Powers?

My son's school motto is: "No-one can do everything, but everyone can do something." When I first saw this, displayed on a big sign outside the school, I said to my wife I thought that it was very true because, after all, our son can get his big toe in his ear.

I also know a woman who can curdle milk just by looking at it.

Is there anything peculiar that you can do with your body, or do you know someone else with special abilities, out of the ordinary, like?

Uri Geller has Special Powers
Uri Geller is a parlor-trick magician who managed to con people into believing he has special powers. His Special Power is to bilk people out of millions of dollars.

I don't believe he has special powers either. I'd pay money to see him get his big toe in his ear, though. Bet he can't do that...

Aye, James Randi and Johnny Carson exposed him in 1973:

I can change my own flat tires without calling AAA.

I can use the universal remote control without needing all the others around.

I can figure out the change from a dollar without a calculator.

I can read signs posted on doors and alongside freeways.

I can figure out what food is by reading the labels instead of pointing and asking.

I can find my way someplace without needing a GPS on my phone.

All these would seem to be super powers today......... :88)

I have the ability to on occasion do something without thinking that is incredibly stupid and deadly and come away relatively unharmed.

For example when I was 12 or so I was walking around in my backyard playing around with model F4U Corsair I had just finished. I happened across this old aquarium that was turned upsidedown. I thought to myself excellent an Imperial Japanese Navy flattop. So I kicked this aquarium turned aircraft carrier it however it did not break the glass. So I got the outstanding idea to stand on top of the glass. Well to my dismay it did break the imaginary flattop deck. Of course this also also meant that my foot and leg fell through the very real glass and I got cut pretty badly but not as bad as could have been.

Of course I have reason to believe that every one has this power they just do not admit it.

My father-in-law told me this afternoon that his father was ambidextrous. I asked whether this meant he could saw up a piece of wood with one hand whilst banging in nails with the other. No it didn't, he said (this is where I got the idea for this thread).

When I met my wife she was a radical 'woman's libber', after 33 years of being with yours truly, she's a convert MCP.

Now that takes Unversal Special Powers.

My special power is clouding people's minds so they don't believe I have any special powers.

I think it is working rather well.

When I was young I could "hear" the phone about 2-3 second before the first signal came

I used to say "phone" and about 2-3 second later the first signal came.

When I visit my Mom who still have the old type of phone I sometimes hear the phone before the first signal

When it comes to mobilphone I can't

It's like I hear a click or something and I wonder if it has something to do with my hearing problem. I have some kind of "overhearing". There are certain frequents I hear better than other people do and perhaps I have had this
"overhearing" all my life.

Just a thought.

You'd make a good earthquake early warning system. :)

I wake up 3 minutes before my alarm clock rings (what ever time it was set for). Also - I wake up if some one comes to my door (I am one light sleeper).

I have something similar. Often have trouble separating close noises, or hearing conversations, often overpowered by outside sounds. ...... birds, dogs, a breeze.
Can hear things miles away though, and also clearly hear electrical appliances sitting idle or on standby in other rooms.

Because I had a sister who had silent Grand Mal seizures, I developed a high sensitivity to changes around my area. I, too, used to know when a phone would be about to ring, but I attributed the ability to a very low volume mechanical 'noise' occurring in those old style phones just before the ring itself. I have lost a lot of the ability since my sister is no longer around and, also, due to, I suppose, aging...

I used to freak out my 2nd ex by being able to tell when someone was coming down the walkway in front of the door before we could hear any footsteps. I also put this down to a highly developed 'sense' for very low volume sounds...

The earthquake bit is something I still retain. Any shaker 3.0 or over I seem to sense just a few seconds before it occurs. This has proven to be a big benefit living here in California, home of big quakes. The Northridge Quake (6.7 on the scale) in particular: I was sound asleep after having spent the night out and about consuming mass quantities of adult beverages; at about 4:30 in the morning, I woke up alert and stone sober and I immediately knew there was a quake coming. I quickly grabbed the pillows and blankets and pulled them over my head as protection. The quake hit a few seconds later and all manner of item rained down on me, including a bookcase that wound up pinning me down on the bed. If I hadn't 'sensed' the approaching quake and been able to cover and brace, I might have been injured more than the slight bit I was...

I'm not a light sleeper, I just don't sleep very well. I probably wake 3 or 4 times a night and with out looking at the clock I can guess the time to within a few minutes. Every time.

Sometimes when my wife is talking I look her over closely to try and work out how it is she is managing to breathe.

How can your wife know when you've switched from Corrie/Emerdale (Insert crap soap here....) from three rooms away, storm in and say, "I was watching that !!"
