View Full Version : Pirate Bay gone for good?

So it looks like that supposedly-untouchable huge bandwidth hog might finally bite the bullet.

Their office was just raided by Swedish Police.

Almost hard to believe.

It'll come back up sooner or later.

And you know if they don't, there's tons of torrent sites out there ready to fill the void.

I read an article today about how TPB's own founders want the site to die with this raid.

Time will tell...the article also said that last time there was a raid they were only down for three days. It's been just over one day since the current raid I do believe.

Its impossible to actually get rid of the Pirate bay, it's literally like 100mb file of random strings that can be interpreted by torrent software to open a torrent. Thousands of people have copies of it so if its down for the count you can bet a hundred clones of it will pop up, hell there is probably a bunch rehosting it already.

The ONLY way you can defeat piracy is to provide a better service than the pirates.

The news about this that I saw, mentioned that the site was transfer to a Costa Rica .cr domain, but only for a few ours since it already went down also.

Rilder is right, it is impossible or almost impossible to get rid of pirate bay.:arrgh!:

As already stated, too many clones....unfortunately.

Dowly
12-11-14, 07:26 AM
The .cr domain is/was just a cache.

I wish they would just stop trying to fight piracy. It won't go away and the "big guys" who are so keen on going after the pirates still seem to have enough money to make "Clone of that other movie part eleven" every year. :shifty:

Man I must spend more time on the Internet, never heard about them until reading this thread. On the other hand forget it I rather read books.

As said above you can't keep crooks down they always come back.

Looks like Sweden has become the USA's little puppet.

The legaity of the operation depends on the country's membership to international copyright law, and this is generally an agreement between countries, or a group themselves.
For instance China AFAIK still does not adhere to any copyright membership, so pirate bay can exist there quiet freely.

I'd never heard of them until the kids mentioned it about a year ago.. All the kids were going nuts on this... it's just a rebellious phase. I was the same when younger.

The thing is about this sort of piracy.. is that the pirates are highly unlikely to buy the product anyway.

So while not being able to reduce piracy by any significant amount .. use it as a free advertising channel... you could reach an incredible market... and with gentle persuation, sell products for real, and make money on your pirate bay products by selling advertsing space.

But NNoooooo... business cannot pull their heads out their rear ends... :D

Actually I think it would just give the pirated stuff a legitimate look and all your honest customers will rather go for the pirated version then than the other way around. People are cheap after all.

I have a friend who thought Pirate Bay was the best thing since peanut butter and jelly. He found out the hard way that crime doesn't pay. He lost his internet connection privileges by running so much data through his tubz that he got caught and prosecuted by the copyright holders.:-?

:arrgh!:Piracy doesn't pay:arrgh!:

The pirate bay is more than just a domain, a page, an address to enter in your browser.
You can't stop it.

The whole "piracy is so bad bullcrap hypocrisy" thing is getting on my nerves.
I spend so much money on games - because I was able to check them out.
Think of that what you will, but the pirate bay isn't an evil thing, just some users are, those who take, take, take without giving back, without supporting by buying the product in the end.

Maybe this rings a bell:
The pirate bay doesn't pirate products, the pirates do.

Nope, they don't. They just give the pirates a pass through channel for spreading the booty around. In legalese that's called Aiding and Abetting.

If you really wish to try before you buy, wouldn't a subscription to Gamefly be the right way to go?:hmmm:
Considering all of the turds these game publishers have been putting in the retail pipe for the last ten + years, they kind of brought it on themselves in a way and makes me wonder who the REAL pirates are.:stare:

Yeah, I read somewhere that the PB entire catalog of torrent files and links only amount to 90MB, being that torrent files are so small. That would be a really easy system to have backups ready to transfer and go.

The fake ad

From November 2015, an undercover IRS Special Agent spoke with a KAT representative about hosting an advertisement that would direct visitors to an undercover site. An agreement was made and the ad, which purportedly advertised a program to study in the United States, would be placed on individual torrent listings for $300 per day. When it finally went live on March 14th 2016, a link appeared underneath the torrent download buttons for five days. It was a short campaign, but it was enough to link KAT to a Latvian bank account, one that received €28 million ($31 million) in deposits -- mainly from advertising payments -- between August 2015 and March 2016.

:haha::haha::haha: Wow, look at the money he was pulling down! Man, that's an amazing amount to make off of hosting pirated movies for free. :arrgh!:

Proxy sister's and copy sites are online but no new content is been had (so I heard...:D).
Possibly another torrent site will step in and fill the place, then it will be put off-line and another one will, etc etc and so one!

That would make sense, based on what I've seen and heard.

Possibly another torrent site will step in and fill the place, then it will be put off-line and another one will, etc etc and so one!
I don't think there's any "possibly" about it. Like weeds, there will always be another growing somewhere.
