Hello. Been around forever and just had to reinstall Windows.
- Backed up SH4
- Installed from the disc and it worked
- Copied over the other files - including the Uboat patch
- And now it asks me for my code and won't accept it.

Anyone have a similar issue and have a solution?

Windows 95,98,XP, Vista, 8, 10 ?????

Did you do a clean install removing the entry from the registry?

If this is a new install then what do you mean by "Copied over the other files".

If this is a clean install there are no files to copy over.

If all your doing is a reinstall of windows there is no such thing as a brand new registry if windows is being reinstalled into the same directory. A true clean install of windows means that the hard drive has been cleaned and wiped by a reformatting of the drive then an install.

Anything less means your installing to the same registry and files from the old one will remain there and cause issues.

Did you reformat the drive before installation?

Did you previously have windows 7 as your OS or is this an upgrade from an older OS and not a clean installation?

If this is an upgrade(not a true install) is the game being installed on a separate drive or at least into a directory not PROGRAM FILES?

I would also have a read at these threads for other information concerning installation. It may provide you with clues to your issue.

OK - got it sorted.

I guess that SHIV doesn't like to be installed in the Programs(86) directory for some reason!

I've been told that Windows Vista, 7 and 8 don't like you installing any program not made by them into their Program Files.

I've been told that Windows Vista, 7 and 8 don't like you installing any program not made by them into their Program Files.I wouldn't go that far as suggesting Microsoft wants a monopoly on PC software installed on your system. ... ehm, wait what! :timeout: Disregard.

Installing stuff into there does need to be done as an administrator. Depending on how old the installer is even explicitly "run as administrator". In XP it could do just whatever it wanted because the user was by default an administrator user. And so do worms/trojan/whatever.

But just copying or modifying stuff into there is certainly going to raise an eyebrow in Windows Vista/ 7/ 8/10 etc thesedays. If the UAC warning isn't acknowledged it fails. And those mods are not there anymore. Or at most until the next boot.

It is all based on the NT Kernal now. Most people have no clue what that is or why it is so stable but it doesn't like users buggering with it as an OS.

HAL is in there for a reason.

It is always best practice to install programs to a separate hard drive or at least a directory outside of the OS.

Well all is well that ends well and now I have a kick-a$$ GTX 760 and am able to play with all sliders maxed out. :) Gotta love that.

Does your GTX support Directx 11.2? I am thinking of getting a new card for some other software but I can not afford to spend to much money but wanted one capable of Directx 11.2

Doesn't appear that it does, sorry.
