help naval engagement with submarine

So I'm in a battle with a submarine can you sink enemy subs. He is tough as hell. I've probably hit him with 4 or 5 deck gun shells

Yes you can sink them.

In GWX, enemy subs are notoriously difficult to sink. Even after you get the "going down" message, they may never actually sink unless you shell the crap out of them.

I once "sank" one and then took lots of screen shots of me "boarding" the S-class sub as I pulled my u-boat along side. :)

To be fair, our u-boats are hard to sink, too. I once had a homing torpedo hit come back on me and hit me in the conning tower and we survived.
