Exactly!

Technically though the natives of America discovered it first. :hmmm:

But Amerigo Vespucci patented it, so an Italian is still legally to blame for it :03:

Then there's the Scots. :D

From the above article...

According to some scholars, it was Scottish Earl Sir Henry Sinclair of Orkney who first touched American land in 1397, on one of many voyages the sailor undertook with Italian partner Nicolo Zeno.

Unfortunately an extremely clever, unscrupulous and dangerous idiot.

His claim to add America to Islam's property is not the only interesting twist given to history.

That guy is said to be close with the great Sultan. He gets protection and support from highest state offices and jurisdiction as well.

I mentioned it already years ago.

Go read the late Professor Barry Fell's "America B.C." and let those "academics" try to argue against his findings. They don't dare--they just ignore him. Erickson was a johnny come lately.

Many academic archaeologists were more than sceptical of Barry Fell’s claims: they were openly hostile to them. His claims for scientific rigour might hold for marine biology, but when it came to archaeological interpretation, he ignored the usual rules of evidence. Moreover, his publications were largely aimed at non specialists; instead of submitting his papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals (the usual procedure), he preferred to publish either in popular books or through the Epigraphic Society of North America, a society that can be characterised, not altogether unfairly, as being composed of his disciples. In other words, he shows all the characteristics of a Bad Archaeologist.

I didn't see any open debate about his theories while he was alive. As I said, he was ignored by the "mainstream" because it wasn't politically correct and didn't fit into the approved box. Academics aren't exactly famous for keeping an open mind about any subject. Evolution is a good example.

Yeah, no, Native Americans discovered it first.

And as Wolferz said, whoever discovered it first doesn't matter now.

Doesn't that, by definition, make them non-native?

Excellent point, Herr Kaleun.

I'm a native-born American with no evidence of American "Indian" ancestry. Columbus sure opened a can of worms with that "Indios" mistake of his.

On the other hand, let's give credit where credit is due - the contributions of Arab mathematicians and geographers were crucial in making expeditions like those of Columbus possible.
