Hey guys,

So, I decided to give Silent Hunter another go as I just got a new computer.

I have the Steam version and I used all of the mods listed on Fifi's 'medium' list. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=203711

Everything seems to work great... but then... when I'm a little out of dock I get a random CTD. There's a couple things that I should probably mention. 1) I wasn't able to get a mission from the commander before I leave port. It shows me the 'Coastal Waters' mission, but doesn't let me choose it. 2) If I press a,s,d,or w on the keyboard, it CTD's 3) IF I look at radio messages, it CTD's.

So, I added all the mods through JGSME in the proper order, started a new campaign, picked Coastal Waters, and skipped the tutorial.

Is there something I'm missing? Does this sound familiar to anyone? If there a quick fix?

Thanks!

There is a workaround for that..It happened to me a few weeks ago after a few year lay-over...Save the game, start again, skip the tutorial and it will appear..(Im paraphrasing) the fix is here on SubSim...I googled it and found it...Ill try and backtrack what I did...Here ya go..from another site:

"after searching through several forums trying to get the first mission started, I found a post that fixed my problems and very well could fix yours

"Having spent the better partof the last 20 hours with this game i'd like to clarify some things : Even after the patch there are still some bugs but asinde from the initial "the missions don't work" thing it's nothing world shaking or gamestopping., expect a patch within the nxet few days.

"The missions don't work! / I can't reenter my ship in dock!"
That's something I've read/heard quite often and the documentation/ingame help don't really adress this so here's what I did:
After docking at Kiel and saying good bye to your old commander you'll notice 2 guys standing around you can talk to (press ALT to outline them with a yellowish frame). THe one on the left lets you upgrade your sub for prestige, the one on the right (dressed in a uniform) let's you a) choose a mission and b) make a sortie. That's how you get back on your ship and out there.

Now choosing a will bring up the mission briefing but you won't see any icons to choose and accept anything, that's what most people report as the dreaded DRM kicking in or having to download stuff. Now thta's a complete pile of steaming bull...
It's juxt another bug in the game, simply quit the game after the tutorial, restart the campaign and click "skip tutorial" when prompted, you're standing in the dock in front of the flotilla captain and voilą, miraculously the missions work."

It's a simple game bug, not the DRM. All you have to do is start a new campaign and finish the tutorial, then start another campaign and skip the tutorial. The captain will have three stars above his head and you just have to talk to him about the next mission. On the map there will be two different objectives you can choose from in the upper left side of the map. I hope this helps"

I dont know who to give credit too....

Awesome.

I'll try it and report back.

Just so we're clear though, I'm not starting in Kiel, I'm at another port.

I assume starting a campaign, playing tutorial, starting another campaign and skipping it will solve this though?

Well, that sucks.

I guess I'll buy the non steam version and try again.

I'm not giving up.

If you are using OHIIv2.5 - be sure to add the patch by sober
If you are not - you should try updating to it
