Can anyone give me any advice on the easiest way to mark the waterline?

More pictures to come when I start painting and building :yep:

Ooh can't wait for this :)

When I did my Corvette I found the easiest way to do the waterline was to just simply get a looong piece of thin tamiya tape and just sort of go for it lol, stick it where you think you want it and it tends to be about right, but using a single length of thin stuff makes it easier to adjust the position once it's down, but also actually makes it easier to get a straight line in the first place.

Awesome indeed! Have fun with it. :yeah:

Just got the prima on and waiting for the MK 1 design kit with the wooden deck to arrive from a model shop in the USA (Georgia) which was sent out to me a week ago.

Wow! Going whole-hog, eh? I've found that the greatest asset for building is patience. Take your time and you'll end up with a display piece you can really be proud of. :sunny:

11-10-14, 07:27 PM
No! Glue it all together tonight, don't wait for other bits. Then paint it tomorrow - all of it. What could go wrong? :D

I expect regular progress reports, and good luck. :salute:

PS - once it's built - don't try heading for Brest too soon.

So this where I am now rudder and screw shaft mounts fitted and another coat of primer (this stuff takes 24 bloody hours to dry)

http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee374/rothwellwhite1/001_zpsc7b46f97.jpg
Tomorrow will be the fitting of the deck and masking out the waterline and painting.

Now with waterline masked out and sprayed with Tamiya xf 69
http://i1224.photobucket.com/albums/ee374/rothwellwhite1/219_zpsba138e27.jpg
Now I will have to wait for my life colour 606 to arrive to paint the bottom part of the hull, and then for my MK1 design kit to arrive from the states

Does anyone know if Bismarck had those black and white camouflage stripes during the battle of the Denmark straight ?
I think that they had been removed but I want to be 100% sure.

Sailor Steve
11-14-14, 04:45 PM
This guy says they were not, and uses photographs to back himself up.

Me, I like the stripes. :sunny:

Not a huge amount of stuff out there in 1/200. There are some at http://www.shapeways.com/model/1556333/1-200-fairey-swordfish-quot-torp-armed-quot.html?li=gmerchant&ca=gp&ct=pla&cr=catchall&gclid=CNri-dfehcICFeLm7Aod7wcAuQ

That is big, thought maybe it was the old Lindbergh model.

BossMark
11-19-14, 10:08 AM
With the main deck in place, I am now waiting for the wooden deck to arrive which I hope tomorrow or Friday.

There is a guy selling all the parts in 1:100, but that would cost a furtune. The hull alone is 289,- EURO

Nice, but if I was going to go that far I'd want to take it all the way to 1/72. Park it alongside your u-boat. :D

All I have been able to do today is fix the lower part of the superstructure, due to it being very dark all day (no light through the windows been a very poop day in Leeds) And I dont like working in artificial light.

Slow indeed and losing the anchor chains didnt help.

Anchor chains in place along with most of intake and ventilation shafts, a bit of tweaking here and there is needed.

That's a lot of 'bleeding' in the $$ deck wood from the swastika-what's the solution? Quite a deceptively complicated paint job http://www.navweaps.com/index_inro/GERbb08_Bismarck-LDclr.jpg NICE!

Maybe a coat of satin polyurethane beforehand? Unfortunately won't help now. Those decks really are a beautiful addition though. Maybe just expand it out as little as possible, and make it a tad oversize. Maybe a port to starboard line of some kind of sealer before expanding the red area.

Sailor Steve
12-18-14, 08:15 AM
Spray on very light coats which dry almost instantly. For the swastika itself use a decal.

Bismarck went a bit tits up I somehow managed to lose a number of very crucial parts :wah::wah: so now I looking as to where I can find these. But in the meantime I have purchased Trumpeters 1\200 HMS Nelson which I have just started I will post some pics tomorrow or the day after when I am on my days off.

Been that long I thought I saw your Bismarck on Antiques Roadshow :hmm2:

BossMark
10-18-15, 11:29 AM
Yes I can just about believe that Jim, but the truth is having lost the part, I turned my house upside down looking for them , I got a bit fed with modelling and left it alone for about 8 months but now I have started again.

Sailor Steve
10-18-15, 12:07 PM
Good to hear. A hobby like this should always be fun. That, I think, is the real reason I keep taking longer and longer breaks. When it starts to feel like a job it stops being worth it.

Bismarck went a bit tits up .

The (Bismark) ship was laid down at the Blohm & Voss (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blohm_%26_Voss) shipyard in Hamburg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamburg) in July 1936 and launched in February 1939...your well within the authentic time limits!:D
