I don't think I've ever seen a comparison 'chart' between the two.
I have SH5 in the box, but have never played it.. I think I only went as far as Helgoland once.
With the current mods... can anyone explain the +'s and -'s when compared to SH3... or a link if this is available.

with SH5:
+nicer graphics obviously, the volumetric clouds and fog in particular are very nice
+the ability to walk throughout the sub and chat with one of the officers if you so choose
+aside from the absolutely vital bugfixing of TDW's patch it also adds a few neat gimmicks to the game that you won't find in SH3
+script system with TDWs GUI that will do search patterns or drive you out of port or through the Kiel canal
+option of 'real navigation' to remove magical exact sub position marker on the map
+you don't have to deal with the utterly inane crew management of SH3
-instead of keeping the fine crew management of SH4 they pretty much got rid of crew management entirely...
-if you want to drive something other than a Type VII you are obviously S.O.L.
-your watch crew is perpetually drunk, one minute they superhumanly spot ships at 4km and the next minute they won't fire the deck gun because they can't see the british merchantman thats 200 meters away
-more CTDs in my experience
-mission objectives sometimes bugging out and failing to register success or failing to update
-less fluff mods (added ships & aircraft, more detailed ports etc.) if that matters to you
-no equivalent of SH3 Commander if that matters to you
+/-loading times of modded SH5 are just as atrocious as the loading times of heavily modded SH3

Thanks...
Nice to have a basic summary.. maybe SH5 is good for the sailing experience :)

I like standing on the watch tower during storms watching it plow through the waves, periodically spraying myself in the face with a spray can of water.

Any more thoughts on this?
SH5 started out wonderfully for me. I didn't purchase it until recently so all of the great modders in this community did the hard lifting and I was able to install the game plus a megamod.
It was beautiful, sounds were awesome, the visuals were spectacular!
However, it just seems to be missing something... as if I'm not really going out into the Atlantic and searching for ships, rather, I'm going to a specified location where each time the same ships will appear and I'm expected to do the same thing so I can advance to the same next level.
SH3 gave me more of a feel of a U-boat captain and I enjoyed having the option of upgrading my U-boat, moving out into the waters not covered by my assignment, .. I'm not sure how or why but it just seemed like more of a complete experience.
Any one else have any thoughts on this subject?
