Reminds me of a story I once heard from a retired Frightening pilot....

The Soviets were peed off when pictures were published of Bear crews waving to the crews of the interceptors. It was considered too close to fraternising with the enemy. They started to putting a KGB political officer on board each aircraft whos job it was to stop the crew waving and posing for photographs when they were intercepted.

There is a 20 metre long crawlway between the main cabin and the tail observation window on a bear. The lightning crews would pull alongside the tail section and wave at the crew until the KGB man came and made them stop. The lightning would then pull forwards and wave at the pilot. The aim of the game was to see how many times you could make the KGB officer crawl along the tunnel before he got fed up with it.

Those are better and more reasonable reasons, than i have heard of our own allies spying on us. :03:

Wolfgang Ischinger;
"We have to state succinctly, that the war, as an element of politics, has returned to Europe"

"Now it is coming from abroad, from Russia, but also from our own allies." (Cyber security summit)
