I found the disk version of SH-4 Gold for sale. I like having the disk better then a download.

Anyway, will this gold disk version be the 1.5 version?

I've bought my Gold Edition about a year and a half ago (got tired of using my original 1.0 version, then updating it to 1.5 with the U-Boat Missions Add-On) from iNetVideo (http://www.inetvideo.com/products/silent-hunter-iv-wolves-of-the-pacific-gold-edition-pc). Came in four days, with no hassle at all. Their selling it today for $19.99 U.S.

The price has increased since then....but so has a gallon of milk. :D

I'm sure you could get a gallon of milk dated 2007 for a lot less, but would you want to? :O:

I downloaded my version and no not from steam.

I enjoy not having to play from a disc. Everything is accessed faster off the hard drive.

You don't play from the disc. The game loads to the hard drive and the disc goes back in the box and stays there until you need it again.

I just bought a Gold DVD from Amazon a few months ago just to have.... I didn't want to get stranded next time I buy a computer.

My D2D that has run all these years is no longer supported.

Get 'em while they're hot (the Gold DVD's) - lol

Happy Hunting!

Yes, that's what I did too aanker.....bought the down loadable Direct2Drive Missions Add-on to update my original 1.0 version of the game.

I remember having trouble with D2D if a certain amount of time had passed since last downloading the Add-On from them.....something like the Authorization Code needed to be updated. It wasn't a big deal, but I had to call their support to have them re establish a new Authorization number for me every time I wanted to re download the 1.5 version of the game. When D2D sold out to someone else a couple of years ago, I decided to shop around for the disc Gold Edition version. Figuring the new owners might not want to support the older clients that D2D had established. Sounds like that's exactly what has happened.

When I bought the Gold Edition disc from iNetVideo about a year and a half ago, it was selling for under $8.00 plus $2.50 shipping. As I've followed them, their in-stock supply of the game had depleated......it's only been lately that I've seen them carry the game again. Unfortunately at a higher price, but still a great deal compared to a down loadable version of the game. Much cheaper than what we paid for the original and its last patch!

Yes, I payed a pretty penny at Amazon, but it's worth it.

A friend bought the Gold disk about a year ago and his install sounds so simple. He recently installed it on a new HDD because his HDD crashed. The computer shop could only salvage his My Documents.

A \Data backup folder he had easily overwrote the new installs \Data folder so he had all his little mods & tweaks good to go.

He could have easily used his old saved games but since he had just started a new career that didn't matter.

I like hearing happy success stories, especially from people who struggle to do things that some of us take for granted.

Happy Hunting!

I originally downloaded mine from Ubisoft and saved both SH4 and the Uboat pack to a separate drive.

Is it true that the Steam version has some problems with crashing compared to the DVD version?

My Steam version keeps crashing for some reason, even after re-installs.

Bought the DVD Gold version today hoping it would be an improvement with stability.

According to my experience helping people install mods on a Steam install with a high failure rate, I'd say Steam has issues that the D2D Direct 2 Drive (now defunct) the DVD 1.5 add-on on top of the original disk, and the Gold DVD don't have.

Some people get lucky with Steam. I don't know what the problem is with those who have problems..... tear my hair out.

I recommend the Gold DVD. I think you'll be happy.

It's my understanding that Steam is selling the 1.3 patched version of the "basic" game. :timeout:

You'll pay "extra" for wanting/needing to upgrade to 1.5 (which Steam is happy to provide with the U-Boat Missions Add-On). You get the German's messing around in the Pacific along with the upgraded version, but from what I've heard, the "basic" SH4 game that Steam is selling is only version 1.3. Originally, it was UbiSoft's idea to wring extra money out of us by forcing us to pay for the fifth patch, that also put the German's into what should have been an American Submarine game. It seems Steam is doing the same thing. Except they apparently are not providing the 1.4 patched version as their "starter" SH4 edition.....a much better version than 1.3!!! There's few mods that were made specific for version 1.3, so many gamers are using mods with their Silent Hunter 4 download and finding trouble while running the game (not to mention that version 1.4 fixed several issues that 1.3 introduced). Most Steam users don't know their first download of Silent Hunter 4 is only version 1.3.

Don't know what version your game is? Look in the bottom right of the "Main" menu screen:
