ok fellow sailers. I am gonna start my first career tonight after work. I am running grey wolves mod along with sh3 commander. I plan on starting my career in august of 1939. I have been reading and read the war does not start till sep 3 1939. Is this correct. I also read that I should not sink no ships until then. I also seen that the only boat I will have is the short range type II u boat. when will I have availbilty to other u boats. thanks fellow sailers. also if there is anything else I need to know I would love to hear it.

I remember my first career in Silent Hunter III.

Keen and eager i sailed straight for the east coast of England, bumping into a small merchant on the way. I dived, lined myself up perfectly and fired a torpedo. It was great to sink my fist ship.

Then literally about an hour in game time later i received a message informing me that the war had now began.

I didnt realise it hadnt already. :haha:

Im only going by stock game but i dont think it will be long before you can upgrade to a new boat.

I want to play a grey wolves campaign but i cant even get my SHIII going on windows 7 yet.

Yes, war begins with Hitler marching in to Poland on Sep 3. So every ship is neutral or friendly until then. I play lsh3 but I think it's the same in gwx when you start your career pre war: you'll get a message that war has begun and which ships are now hostile. With a type 2 boat you should aim only at the biggest ships you find and watch your diesel reserves. Normally you should get the chance for a type 7 or 9 one or two patrols later. I hope this is not too late ;) big game
Oh, and better use only t1 torpedoes, the type 2 is very faulty on the beginning

Welcome to SH3.

If you start in some of the other ports, you can start off with a Type VII.

I always start in Wilhelmshaven so I don't have to make the arduous route out of Kiel. Then get your butt to Lorient and a Type IX as soon as you can. :)

If you're lucky you can enjoy a year of deck gunning with the Type IX's big gun. With luck you can wipe out entire convoys. Once the merchies start carrying guns, though...
