Im currently in grid AF76 outbound from Bergen. Im in command of U-2528 a Type XXI. Its 0349 hours on 30/09/44 and Ive received a radio contact report which reads as follows:
"Radio report received! Enemy Task Force, Grid AN23, Course E, Speed 18kts!" Its less than 130km from the coast of Norway which is around 4 hours sailing at 18kts. Im at least 10 hours away at flank. In fact I cannot intercept its a mathmatical certainty as the intercept point is somewhere inland and my boat only does 17kts in moderate seas. My question is, is that task force an invasion force? Ive completey forgotten whether the allies invaded Norway or not and if so, when?
Should I even bother reversing course to try and catch them off the coast or will the task force disappear like they do in SH4

No. The Allies never liberated Norway by force. There was the odd British commando raid on the Norwegian coast, but no invasion.

However, they did manage to keep Hitler entranced by the idea that they would invade, thus causing a substantial number of U-boats to be tied down uselessly guarding against an invasion that would never happen.

^ AGREE: I don't believe an invasion force, with troop ships, could do 18 knots. Do not hazard your rare XXI vessel against other than targets of opportunity warship-wise. Stick to merchants if possible; its a submarine tonnage war-afterall!!??

Go find a convoy and play slalom among the columns, watching the escorts dodge and weave to try and keep up with you.

Hope you brought along homing torpedoes, though.
