See the maritine museum and aircraft carrier.

I'd be up for walking the dog if I lived in San Diego.
I haven't a clue where San Deigo is.:03::O:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b4/HMS-Surprise-overall.jpg/640px-HMS-Surprise-overall.jpgI may join you just to tred the decks and do a little 'friggin around'! " The ship now known as HMS Surprise began life in 1970 as a replica of the 18th century Royal Navy frigate Rose. During the next 30 years Rose sailed thousands of miles as an attraction vessel and sail training ship prior to her conversion to HMS Surprise. For the academy award winning film, Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, the filmmakers made a painstaking effort to recreate a 24 gun frigate specific to Great Britain's Nelson era Royal Navy. The result is a replica vessel unmatched in its authenticity and attention to detail."

Surprise found a new home at the Maritime Museum of San Diego in 2004. A popular shoreside attraction, the ship now joins our collection of ships along with the Star of India and Californian. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5DuRSVJaOs&feature=player_embedded (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5DuRSVJaOs&feature=player_embedded)

That's a wonderful looking vessel, Aktung. A few years back the replica of Cook's "Endeavour" sailed up the Haven to visit us here in Boston, UK (the first of two visits, in fact). I'll try to get one of the pics on for you tomorrow. It was a marvellous sight and a lovely day.

I live 40 miles or so away, in a small town called Ramona. I won't be able to meet up downtown, as I still haven't flown the coop (much to my parent's dismay ;)), but I'd be willing to give you some pointers and places to hit, if you're asking. I moved here 9 years ago from the East Coast (Navy brat here), and it's a great place.

I'll always be a Texan at heart, though.

:hmmm::hmmm::hmmm:
So If you're serious about meeting up for a day or two. When would be a good time? I'm kicking around the idea of going in February. The weather should be nice there. Taking front end of the week of works best for me (Sun-tues or wed).

Nothing fancy really, go see some ships, have a nice dinner/lunch. Tell stories about past subsim meets, tell tall tales of Jim or Tarjak. Mainly BS most of the time.:woot:

This was one of the better shots on a small camera I had back then, only the ship is leaving The Haven here (the deep water cut leading into the Port of Boston) and sailing out into The Wash.
